Quick visit to somewhere in South
I will be in India in August, mostly in Delhi and Rajasthan. I have a few extra days and will be starting my trip in Mumbai. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a place to visit in southern India. I am looking for somewhere that is:
(1) easily and economically approached from Mumbai (flights under $200 USD or train journey under 5 or 6 hours) (2) available for travel in early August (3) a good place to lounge for 3 or so days, get acquainted with India, and eat good food. I was thinking of Pondicherry, but it's not very convenient to Mumbai. There is also Goa, of course, but I have heard that it's pretty deserted during that time of the year. |

It would have been nice to at least acknowledge the responses to your other thread first, Mumbai-Kolkata-Darjeeling-Varanasi-Delhi? Somewhere in the South?
In fact this sounds like an extension of the same question. 3 Days obviously doesn't give you a lot of room to play with no matter what you do. You need to get up to the north after that I believe? Where to?

the food and lounging isn't really the attraction,, but 2-3 days willget you a goodlook at Ajanta & Ellora. it's not far by train/plane Rt to Aurangabad, which is the usual base for it.

If you go there, also go to the Lonar meteorite crater about 5 hrs drive from Aurangabad. Its the 2nd largest M. crater in the world and worth a visit. Good place to go in August when it is green and pleasant.

Thank you for the replies. I am sorry for not mentioning my previous post. To be honest, I kind of got sidetracked in the last month and I forgot that my previous post was so similar.
