Please comment on my Itinerary
Hi all,
In 10 weeks my girlfriend and I are travelling to India for the first time. Soo excited!!! Anyway, we are spending 6 weeks there in total from late Nov to early Jan and I'm hoping for some advice. Our (flexible) itinerary is as follows: Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Udaipur - Jodhpur - Amritsar - Attari - Delhi - Agra - Khajuraho - Varanasi - Kolkata ... Then depending how long that takes us (estimates would be greatly appreciated), we're going to fly somewhere down south to relax before flying home (Sydney) from Mumbai. Any advice, comments, etc would be greatly appreciated. Also, some advice about where to be for Christmas and New Years would be good! Thanks guys! |

For the part of the itinerary I have mentioned, we are planning on taking trains. After Kolkata, we will fly somewhere down south (depending on time), then trains back up to mumbai. We want to mainly do night trains to save on accomodation costs etc.

India Trip
Hey fitz_b, I am very Biased towards Kerala,
Its a fascinating place like the most of India. You can relax on the beach at Kovalam although this is High Season, or relax on a houseboat on the backwaters, some terrific homestays on the backwaters as well, Sightseeing around cochin area and hill station of Munnar is worth a look as well You can either fly back to mumbai or catch train up west coast via goa.If you need further info send us a PM. vandy ![]() |

ok, clearly I haven't worded my query well enough, so here are some more specific questions that will hopefully get some more responses.
First some background info: My girlfriend and I have never travelled to anywhere like India together before, but I did a fairly extensive trip of SE-Asia a few years ago. We are both 23, and are looking for a fairly adventurous trip, but really want to get a taste of the people and the culture, the food and the wildlife. We decided to go to India because we wanted to go somewhere as different as possible to Australia. We're VERY excited!!!! 1. What are your general thoughts about the part of the itinerary I have mentioned? 2. How long do you think it will take us to get from Mumbai to Kolkata as above? - We want to be moving a fair bit, but we also want to get a decent taste of the country, rather than a superfial trip (so not too fast). 3. We plan on doing night-time trains as much as possible - does that sound ok? How far in advance do we have to book trains? 4. Any other input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks guys, Fitz |
