Places to go, mid-August

Hi there! I'm living in Jammu, but have a four-day long weekend coming up around Independence Day. Does anyone have any recommendations where to go?

I've been to a few of the places around here (Amritsar, Rishikesh, McLeod Ganj), so I suppose I'd like to go somewhere new. I like the idea of Manali, but not the 16-hour bus ride to get there... Dalhousie perhaps? Or will it be choc-full of tourists? What will the monsoon be like up there at that time?

Any thoughts? If push comes to shove, I could try to fly South via Delhi (Goa or Pondicherry?), but it seems a bit extreme, and it's probably still monsoon down there (?)...
