Hello,

I have been traveling in Rajasthan for two weeks and will be arriving in Trivandrum this Friday, December 22, via a flight from Delhi, landing at 9:50 AM. I have a week in Kerala, as I am flying out on Friday, the 29th, in the early morning.

I am trying to see as many diverse things as possible while not over reaching. Here is my initial itinerary :

Friday, 22nd: arrival at 9:50 AM in Trivandrum, express bus or train to Varkala.

Saturday, 23rd:spend day and night in Varkala

Sunday, 24th: morning train to Kollam. Take backwater canoe to Alappuzha, sleep in Alappuzha.

Monday, 25th: morning cab to Munnar. Spend day in Munnar sightseeing.

Tuesday, 26th: another day and night in Munnar area.

Wednesday, 27th: Munnar, then catch cab to Kochi in the afternoon, sleep in Ft Kochin.

Thursday, 28th: Ft kochin

Friday, 29th: 00:45 AM flight to Bangkok from Kochi airport

I know this is on the rushed side, but are there any changes that anyone would recommend? Should I skip Varkala and devote more time to the backwaters? I'll be in Thailand on Ko Samui for five days, so I'm wondering if I'm better off skipping the India beaches altogether and going straight for the backwaters and tea plantations.

Thanks so much in advance.

The boat to Alleppey is not a canoe but a relative large ferry. It starts at 10.30 so be on time, see here. I found it at the end somewhat monotonous.

Alleppey Munnar is about 5 hours by car.

Thanks vonkla. Would you recommend skipping the ferry altogether, based on your comment about it being monotonous?

Maybe this works for you:
From Varkala take a morning train to Kochi/Ernakulam and proceed to Munnar by bus or taxi.
After Munnar divide your remaining time between Alleppey and Cochin.
The tourist organization offers backwater trips from Kochi.
