Visit Jawhar, Igatpuri or Bhandardara. All are simply divine in the monsoon !

You can try Matheran.
Its a crowded place bu the crowd stays only in the town and the sunset point.
There are so many other places in the town which can be covered only by foot and no one goes to these places, its like two circular paths for walking around the mountains taking you to all the spots to see.
Leave the town and go the charlotte lake and the mountains around there.
Its a beautiful place which very few people explore, and the season too is good.
In the town, near the railway station, sunset point and echo point there will be crowds of Gujrati people yelling at the loudest decibel they can make, and that happens in all crowded places ( Aug 13th is high crowd perios as 13-14-15 are holidays)

well i would go with Shimla to Bhandardara......
there is a MTDC place there to stay....one day at the dam...one day of the weather is fine to the higest peak in teh Sahyadris...Kalsubai-A place to be. tho highest it is fairly easy hike up to the peak. tho i doubt the visibility of the base village from the top due to clouds but if u r lucky to have a clearance on the eastern side u will get a magnificient view of the Wilson Dam. that will make ur trip for sure.

Enjoy the rains in the Sahyadris.

cheers,
Amyl.
