Train 727 has First Class (without AC) and SL class only.

This year Hampi Festival is from 3-5th Nov 07. All structures are lighted up during this time and it may be worth staying one night in Hampi during the festival time.

Never been there during the festival, so wondering, too.

This site says
Quote:
Organized by the Government of Karnataka, the Hampi festival includes Dance, drama, music, fireworks, puppet shows, spectacular processions, all combine to recreate the grandeur of the bygone era.
http://www.festivalsofindia.in/hampi/

which may not be too bad, except for the fireworks.

On the other hand, from two years ago

Quote:
Rock climbing will be held near Sisters' Stones (on the way to Queen's Bath) and water sports will be held at the Kamalapur Tank, Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav told The Hindu
.
Quote:
In order to regulate the movement of vehicular traffic, entry to Hampi has been restricted...
http://www.hindu.com/2005/11/03/stor...0309410300.htm

which doesnt sound too much like my kind of scene at all. Sounds crowded and noisy and touristy...

Maybe Hampi is better at other times.

Yes, go for it.
First Class will have cabins mostly of 4 berths each. It will also have one or two 2 berths cabins.

First class non-AC is the most pleasant class in trains, except in extreme heat. Since the Railways make more money with AC they converted most of the first class into AC coaches. Only a very few trains still have that original first class.

A person is not allowed to board a train with a waitlisted ticket, if the ticket-collector on the train says it is OK, then he knows there are some berths available, but a person can't plan for that to happen.
