North to South or South to North...
I now have my dates to be able to take my first ever trip to India: Late August to late November. I really should book my flights soon but I'm still undicided on whether to travel North to South or South to North (The Airports would be Delhi and Chennai). I can see pros and cons in both but may be wrong.
North to South: Pros - Would be able to see HP and maybe Leh during August/September Cons - Rajistan in September. Kerela in October (Are these really bad times?) South to North: Pros - Tamil Nadu in Septeber. Rajistan in October/November Cons - Unlikely to be able to visit HP and Ladakh As I said these may well be far from pros and cons, I'm just trying to piece together a plan from what I've read in guidebooks/indiamike. I just need first hand experience to advise me. What would you do? Its make my mind up time... PS - On a different note, how do you find the Footprint India guide? |

I suggest South to North. You may not be able to do Ladakh, but H.P. you certainly will.

yeah, I second South to North too...
Apart from the travel aspects.. I think it'll be a gentler introduction to Indian society. Good luck in travel!

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'm edging towards South to North too. Vague question I know, but Is 3 months enough to travel between Chennai to Delhi at a relaxed pace? The last thing I want to do is rush through place to place. Myke |

yes....although you may need to re schedule your schedule once you get here! you can always come back...best to appreciate the 3 months here rather than try to see too much.
south to north....verry good!

![]() If you have a rough itinerary in mind and you get stuck for time you just start dropping places (not to mention switching places, getting off at unlikely spots, turning your whole plans upside down, etc. ). Makes for a good return journey! Some of the must-see places will turn out to be dumps and vice versa. Then again besides Chennai-Delhi you also want to take in Rajasthan and parts of the North. That's probably doable depending on how much time you want to spend inbetween and what route you have in mind, just don't try to cram in too much, it's easy to turn a relaxed pace into an unrelaxed one. Anyway you should be alright. Enjoy!
