North India Sept-Oct- kerala Nov-Dec
Solo Female 30's 1st timer. Budget low-med- 1-2 splurges are possible
Goal: not to try to do too much I'd rather Stay in one place for a while and get to know the area and do side trips. Hiking, cooking courses, yoga and meditation. Sept 24-Oct 9 Meditation retreat which is already organized in Rishikesh Oct 9-31 Interests: Mussoorie for a week Then McLeod Ganj, Dharnasala Sikkum Is this too much to cover from Oct 9-31? if you had to choose an area to stay for a while a use as a base to explore from- what would you choose. Given I will need to fly then to the south. Novemeber head to Kerala fly! Best way to do so??? Stay put in Kerala area. Ayurveda course for three weeks. possibly fly to Sri Lanka to visit a friend and then on to England. Am I over ambitious?? Should I just forget the course in the south?? Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I will begin to tweak from there. I fly in to Delhi but since I will be in the South and then on to Sri Lanka- any ideas where I should fly out of?? I havent bought my ticket. Thanks so much. |

Welcome to IM
Hi Lillie, welcome to IndiaMike. Soon there will be lot of replies. But the itinerary that you are suggesting is very much possible. Since you have good amount of time, you can take the train from New Delhi to Kerala. Takes about two days but you will certainly enjoy. Dont skip Kerala. You can book from Trivandrum to Srilanka by flight. And then make a flight out of Srilanka to England. Let other experts too comment. Best Wishes.

If you're thinking Sikkim, I'd personally take Darjeeling instead of McLeod Ganj/Dharamshala.

Trip addition- flying out of Bombay
thanks for the replies and I felt like a wimp but yes, the train for 2 days seemed to be too much for me to think about. I want to experience the train but 2 days for a solo female just seemed like a little much.
Total time I have after my retreat is Oct 9 through Novemeber 29th. I want to see the Golden Temple but will skip Taj. So I am planning to do some hiking up North- interested in why Darjeeling and not MacLeod Ganj from North I need to fly south to Kerela and then will fly out of Bombay- any one have interesting path to take from Kerela to Bombay. I promise I will post details of the trip after I get back in Dec. Thanks again for any input. |

India Trip
Being your first time in India I suggest you keep
your travel to a minium, for instance your plan on going from Nth West to Nth East will be tiring and time consuming. Personally I would head south after your visits in the north.Extra time in Kerala area will be well worth it & you will have time to duck across to Sri Lanka if that is still in your plans,if so, you could fly Delhi to Trivandrum and then fly onto Sri Lanka, you could then return to Triv/um and work your way up to Cochin, from Cochin you have the option of flying to Bombay or catching the train via Goa,you could spend a few days relaxing in Goa(you'll need it)before heading up up to Bombay. Happy Travelling Rgds - vandy ![]() PS: Try & Get in touch with other Female Travellers who have travelled solo to India, there are quite a few, they should provide you with some very useful info.
