laid traps for troubadours
|
You will have no time to acclimitize to Ladakh, but it looks as if you've already ruled it out.
Diu . . . the beaches are adequate, but mot nearly as nice as Goa. In any event, monsoon beachgoing is russian roulette. Also hot when not raining. May I suggest Mussoorie/Landour: http://flickr.com/search/?w=19754880...ndour&m= text Easy to get to from where you will be starting, and a great place to cozy up with a loved one by a fireplace. Nice easy walks around town and surroundings. Recommend Landour, which is very quiet, and is like walking in the clouds after sweating it out on the plains, it's exhilarating to arrive in the clouds- that was my experience there.or Shimla . . .but I haven't been there, and has reputation as a tourist trap. Also you could do worse than good 'ol touristy Kashmir. EZ to get to, much less rain, and those houseboats are indeed cozy!

thanks a lot guys, you all are great. I got all my questions answered. now the only open question I am facing now is the travel itenary. you know, pvharikrishnan, as you have suggested, a Mumbai -- Diu trip would be more advisable than Ahnedabad -- Diu. is there a specific reason for that? from the maps, it seems that Diu is nearer to Ahmedabad than Mumbai. so, I was wondering....

thanks guys!!!! u rock!!!! now, I guess the question of travel itenary is still open. can someone please suggest if there is good Luxury Bus Service available from Ahmedabad to Diu? and are there any good and reliable travel operators you can suggest (I am not sure if calling out specific names of Companies would be a breech of this forum's policies. if so, then please let me know.)? and how long would it take to reach Diu from Ahmedabad, a distance of 400 kms?

I don't remember the details and things may have changed; I believe it involved one stopover closer to Diu. You can just enquire with any of the gazillion bus agents in downtown Ahmedabad, you can't miss them (in fact they'll more likely be all over you, it's pretty hectic around the main transportation hub there). I was ill on the way and so am not even sure if going the other way around we did the second stretch towards A'bad by train or by bus; what I know is we went Diu-A'bad-train to Delhi in less than 24 hrs., with the latter obviously being the far longer stretch, so it can't be all that far, or for Indian standards anyway. A'bad-Mumbai is quite a stretch in itself, wouldn't merit heading out there to backtrack to Diu I don't think, you'd practically be retracing your steps to do so for much of the way.

Time to break into this discussion with some reality -- Diu during monsoon is not going to be nice at all. Forget walks on the beach -- the tides cover the entire beach during monsoon, so there really is no beach. The water is too choppy for any water sports, so forget that too. The beach shacks all close down during the monsoon. There is nothing to do.
My advice is, either stick to HP/Ladakh or get out of India if you need a honeymoon at this time. Other alternative is a 5-star in Goa, where you probably get a decent rate at this time. Even then don't plan to do anything outside the hotel -- the hotel itself is the attraction. |

guys... the guy's on a honeymoon for chrissakes...!
ladakh is a destination where u need time to explore... goa - he'll most probably run into a neighbour or an office colleague...! and thatz why he was going on his honeymoon, remember - to avoid the regular faces...! choose between diu and manali... diu is great, i would say... it has still not yet been fully exploited by the bunch of crooks of travel operators et all, the way manali has been... manali has always been known as the honeymoon destination... soo, if u want something different, diu it is... i rest my case...! cheers...!!! |

It's unlikely to be raining in Chennai: If see and sand is the thing, one of the East Coast resorts between here and Pondy, depending on budget.
It will be raining, and cold in Ooty, but Coonor and the lower altitude Nilgiris places will offer warmth and less rain, so long as oner sticks to this side of the mountains. Forests and nature reserve at Mudmalai (is that name right?) And TN is much less travelling from Bangalore!
