need suggestions on a mid July Holiday in India.

Hi,

I am new to this Forum. Could someone please suggest a good place to spend a 5-6 day Honeymoon vacation in the middle of July? July would be off season in most of India, so, I am looking for a nice, quiet and beautiful place (without too much commercialization) to spend a few days with my Wife. Not that I don’t like the Monsoons, I just don’t want them to play spoil sport. Here are some places I am thinking of. Please advise which one of these would be nice.

1. North East India.
2. Diu.
3. Kerala.
4. Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
5. Lakshadweep.
6. Any other suggestions are very welcome.

I would be starting my trip from Meerut (UP), about 60 kms from Delhi and would also like to minimize the travel time to 2 days (both to and fro). I will be very grateful to any suggestions / advise / replies. have a great day:-).

thanks a lot, Jyotirmoy. appreciate the quick response. do you (or anyone else for that matter) have any idea as to whether a trip to Kerala, Andamans or Diu would be worth it during the month of July? Ladakh definitely looks like a very interesting option but I would also like to explore the ones already in my list:-).

thanks again for your help.

Forget North East it is always raining remember Chirapunji is inthe North East
Kerala Andaman and Lakshadweep similar, not much Fecility in Lakshsdeep.
I would suggest Panchmari in MP, quite place not much rush, Jabalpur with Marbele rock should be near also.
I am sure other suggessions would come forward.
Happy and memorable Honeymoon

Diu is a good place to go to. depending on what you want but as a honeymooning couple away from the mading crowd it should be good. Its reachable from Verawal aand also by air it has an airport, maybe Jet services the island.
July should be OK.

Good Luck

Hi

i do not think that your timing is very good. June, July is the time of monsoons in India. By june first it starts from Kerala and it reaches North India by the second/third week of June. till july end we expect rain. But if you postpone it to August it will be good. We experience pleasant weather during August.

In Kerala you can visit lot of good places. In Lakshdweep if you are a foreigner you can visit only one island that is bangaram.

You have to fly to Andamans either fro Chennai [Madras] or from Culcutta.

Hiya...
Diu is beautiful...
The image that will stay with you for the rest of your life is the sheer beauty of the island as you are landing in on the tiny airstrip...
If you go by train, there is a train which goes via Rajkot right upto Veraval... And Diu ain't too far from there...
Ideally, you should combine your stay in Diu with Ahmedpur-Mandvi, a sea resort just adjacent to Diu, just a couple of kilometers away... Ahmedpur-Mandvi is part of Gujarat and once u cross the salt flats, you are into Diu, the U.T.
Enjoy yourself...!
You don't need to roam around too much and force yourself to see all the very many places when out on your blessed honeymoon...!
Diu is perfect for relaxing and enjoyment...!
Cheers...!

Two things to consider:
Its Indian summer and monsoon combined for most places.
Also you have very little time available considering how time consuming Indian travel is..

thanks a lot, edwardseco, solo_trekker, pvharikrishnan and amitava343!! all of this is very valuable information. with these inputs, I am almost decided on Diu:-). I have a few supplementary questions though --

1. What kind of weather to expect in Diu in the middle of July?

2. Are there any beach activities (para sailing, water scooting, kayaking etc.) available for tourists? and would you recommend that in July mid? I have read in a few articles on this forum that there arent any beach activities as such, but those posts were made some time back. so, I am more interested in getting some latest information. any redirection to a website, tourist information Office would be very helpful as well.

3. How safe is Diu for Honeymooners? you know, can one step out in the night with a Lady to have a walk on the beaches?

4. I have done some research regarding the modes of transportation. as of now, I am thinking of reaching Ahmedabad by Train or Flight and the take a Luxury Bus all the way upto Diu. going via Rajkot or Veraval would probably result in making too many changes. what you do guys think? am I on the right track? or can there be a better itenary?

I would look forward to your replies. thanks a lot.

regards,
abhineha.

Almost all types of beach activies are in Goa/ Diu. Don't worry.

Diu is almost safe for all. Do not go to the beach late night, but till 9 pm it should be ok. But you know miscreants are everywhere.

I do not think that Travelling From Ahmedabad to Diu is is a good idea since the distance is too much. It is bettere you travel to Bombay from Ahmedabad by Train and from there a Luxury bus to Diu. [ It takes around 13 Hours]

Dont even consider Lakshadweep in the monsoons, the sea will be so rough you will never be able to view the fantastic underwater life.

I havent been there myself but a friend highly recommends Manali in July when all the crowds have gone home and the weather is very pleasant. She always goes there for 2 weeks in July every year.

Abhineha...
Yes, the rains will obviously be there in July...
But then, its the monsoons, remember...?

And the Goa n Kerala guys have started promoting the Monsoon rains; so don't let a lil' bit of rain scare you off...!

All facilities are available including water sports of varied kind... The good thing about Diu is that it is not frequented by the crowds...

Except for the weekends, ofcourse... Hoardes and hoardes of Gujjus land in Diu... But relax - their only destination are those Beer joints and sundry bar shops - they are coming from the 'Dry' state of Gujarat, remember...?

There are options galore... Manali is great too... And in July, it will most certainly rain there too...!

btw, snonymous... I noticed your friend is a she...! Well, let her know that I frequent Manali in July too...!

Cheers...!

Will do ! Tell me, is Manali really worth a visit for someone like me who loves jungles and abhors crowds, noise and litter? My friend assures me it is but she prefers resorts and entertainment so I'm not sure if is worth the effort getting there, when there are plenty of places I like much closer. I believe there is a considerable road journey involved. Thanks
