Need some advice on my itinerary

Hello,
I am a first time traveller to India. My wife and I have travelled all over the world alongwith our 4 yr old. So we are comfortable travelling, and always appreciate advice and feedback from others. My father was born in India and wants me to accompany him on the visit so he can show me around.

My itinerary is as follows:

Arrive in Delhi at midnight
Travel to Agra next morning
Agra 3 days
Jaipur 3 days
Delhi 2 days
Goa 3 days
Mumbai 1 day
Maldives 6 days (scuba!!)

I will be taking the train between delhi, agra, and jaipur. And will fly from Delhi to Goa to Mumbai.

I am leaving on Dec 30th.
Should I reserve trains ahead of time? Should I get 2nd Class or 3rd Class?
thanks in advance
alam

What will you do for 3 days in Agra? One day is good enough. Same with Jaipur. Instead try visiting Udaipur or Jodhpur & Jaisalmer. Both Agra & Jaipur can be done as a day trip from Delhi.

I would suggest just the one night in Agra, A day trip doesn't allow for either a sunrise or sunset viewing, especially with a 4yr old & grandad.
Jaipur is along way from Delhi for a daytrip! one full day between a two night stay could be fine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Fatehpur Sikri - 35 kms. from Agra - is a MUST, hence allot two days(one night) for this leg. The one extra day may be spent in Delhi. Cut one day at Jaipur and alot it to Mumbai. Hence:

Agra + FS - 2 days
Jaipur - 2 days
Delhi - 3 days
Goa - 3 days
Mumbai - 2 days

thank you very much

thanks for all the advice. I am spending 3 days in agra (2 nights) because my father was born there and he wants me to visit all the relatives and take me all the places he used to go so I am going to spend the time. sentimental reason
besides, the place he used to eat for like 1 ana is still around and he wants to have dinner there

You'll get a good in-sight into some off the tourist route then, Enjoy, it'll be special.
Hope he's not expecting to pay in annas these days, my best memory (70's) is chai at 15-20 paisa, & a rice veg & dal meal for 1 rupee.

*Think it was 16 annas to the rupee,,,,,,,,,,,

Yeah I did Jaipur for about 2.5 days and one of those was a Sunday. I saw everything there in about a day. Nice people there though. Pay Bangalore a visit if you can, and Mysore of course.

we are back

after a wonderful trip in india. AGRA is the best. GOA is awesome, Delhi is very congested, but certainly has a lot to do. Jaipur is ok. I was not overly impressed. But my wife had fun shopping. Mumbai is very depressing with its poverty and slums.

but I am done with India. had a wonderful stay in sri lanka, but short. will definitely be back.

maldives was a very welcome retreat after such a hectic trip.

thanks to all those who replied.
