I am planning for a trip to North Bengal (Buxa Jayanti Koochbehar) from 29th May to 8th June (guess the time is not good because of the rain but can't help). My plan is as follows
29th May: Train
30th May: Reach Koochbehar and local sightseeing
31st May: Local sightseeing and go to Rasikbill
1st June: From Rasikbill to Jayanti/Santrabari
2nd June: Jayanti
3rd June: Jayanti to Raymatang
4th June: Raymatang
5th June: Raymatang to Chilapata
6th June: Chilapata
7th June: Chilapata to Hasimara for train
8th June: Kolkata

Now I will like to get some advise from all of you. I have studied extensively about this tour in IM but got a little bit confused with so much information, and the scenario has changed a bit also. So I visited a travel agency in Kolkata who offered me this tour at Rs. 32000 (Car-11000, Hotel-11000, Food-8000, Others - 2000) for 2 person. It looks a bit costly for me.
1. Now if I hire car from place to place will it be cheaper and how good is the availability?
2. Which place is best for staying between Jayanti and Santrabari considering that we prefer a serene isolated place with the vicinity of jungle.
3. The agent calculated food cost 400 per head per day. Is that fine?
4. Any other tips..

It seems you have finalized your program, but had not yet booked your accommodation, car etc. My take on this: Don't go to any Travel Agent. They will rip you off. Already, they had quoted a highly inflated price for this tour. You don't need any Agent for Dooars trip. Book your own accommodation. Hire car on the spot. It will be cheaper. Rs.400 per head for food? You will not spend even half of it.

Stay:

Coachbehar: Lots of hotel, including a Rest House managed by the Municipality. It is good.
Rasik Bill: WBFDC Lodge, book from Kolkata
Jayanti: PHE or Forest Rest House. PHE can be booked from Kolkata, PHE Directorate, New Secretariat Bldg. and Forest RH can be booked from Project Director, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Alipur Duar.
Raimatang: Best option is Forest Bungalow, but there are one or two home stay type of accommodation. You will get details from IM Forum.
Chilapata: You can stay at Mendabari Forest lodge or WBFDC's Malangi Lodge at Hasimara. Incidentally, Jaldapara Forest is almost adjacent to Chilapata Forest, you can think of combining these two forest.
Hope, this helps.

Ashis'da I was waiting for your comments. I read your posts in IM and thinking of making the bookings by myself but the thing is I will be out for a tour for 18 days starting from tomorrow so I doubt if I can make it within 1 day. Koochbehar and Raskibil I can book by myself within today but for raymatang and Jayanti I think I have to depend on the agent. Chilapata is also fine for me. The food charges are actual and i have to pay it there, not to the agent. So hopefully this will, as you said, will not be half of the quote. Can you tell me one thing that whether cars are available on the spot? I am worried about rasikbil, jayanti and raymatang as these are remote places.
secondly will it be better to stat at santarabari or jayanti?

1. Rasikbill and Jayanti, though seem to be "remote" from various reports, some sorts of tourist infrastructure have already built up. You will get cabs at both the places and you can depend on the Managers of Lodges at respective places. I am speaking from my personal experience. There will be no problem whatsoever. As regards Raimatanag, you have to tell the driver of the cab by which you will be going there to report back and pick you up at a designated time and date. They will surely comply your instructios. Kalchini, nearest town to Raimatang, is not veryfar and cab can be called from Kalchini also.
2. "Santarabari" (I think it should be Santhalbari??) does not have many choice of accommodation. I would surely vote for Jayanti. Jayanti river is a plus point. Santhalbari does not have any river. But Santhalbari is quiter than Jayanti. Jayanti is my all time favorite.

My answers:
1. I had not done any trekking on these routes mentioned by you. Hence, I am unable to reply correctly. However, I have met an elderly couple who had done Santhalbari to Buxa Fort & back to Santhalbari same day. They told me that upward journey took about 3 hours, they halted for about 2 hours and came back in another 2 to 2-1/2 hours. Seeing them doing this trek, I am really inspired and am thinking doing this in near future.
2. Trek roads or pathways - have no idea! But motorable roads are good everywhere.
3. Do you mean Forest Bungalow at Jayanti? Forest Deptt. had two Bungalows at Jayanti, one Bungalow has burnt down completely by a freak accident (don't know whether that has been restored or not), this one was very good right on the bank of Jayanti river. The other Bungalow is located at the outskirt of Buxa forest, this one is in useable condition and is also quite good. On the other hand, if you mean WBFDC Bungalow at Rajabhatkhaoa, this one is certainly a very good property. I am not sure whether Buxaduar has a Forest Bungalow or not and even if it is there, I have no idea about that.
4. You had planned to visit Hatipota, Fashkaoa, Mahakal ((chota or bora or both?) etc. on your way back from Lepchakha to Jayanti. I'm not very sure whether these places would come on your way back. Please check this. But generally speaking, I would say you had attempted too many things in too short a time. Dooars in general and Buxa in particular is not for hurricane tour, you have to savour the beauty of Dooars in a relaxed manner. I'm sorry to say, this type of hectic trip in Dooars is not to my liking.
5. You will get all sort of phone numbers, contact address in IM forum. Hope, this helps. Thanks.

Thanks Asis Da,

I know actually that Doars is not for Harricane tour. But actually I want to cover all these as next time I shall be emphasising on those pertivular spots.
Also I want to trek because in this way we can enjoy the silence and the raw beauty of nature.

As we are coming after Monsoon I guess we shall not be able to go most of the spots anyway like Mahakal, roopam valey so we are planning for evrything keeping in mind we can get nothing.

Thre is a forrest rest house in Buxa fort.We intend to stay there. This has no electricity.

I am also planning to go Jayanti, Raimatang. 6th, 7th & 8th Nov. in Jayanti and 9th & 10th Nov. in Raimatang. I have already booked Banantey Resort in Jayanti and trying to book Forest Rest House in Raimatang.. Now my queries are :
1) What to see around Jaynti? It is not possible for us for trekking as I have child of 2 years.
2) How to reach Jayanti to Raimatang. Is it worth to hire a cab for both 2 Days. Or I'll hire to drop me at Raimatang.
3) Is it worth to stay at Aranya Mahal or any other Home Stay at Raimatang? If in case we wil not get the FRH.
4) Is it worth to stay in Rajabhatkhwa on 11th after this trip?

Please suggest.
