Need advice on Mumbai side trip

Hello everybody,

I'm going on a 3 week trip to India starting out in Delhi, traveling through Rajasthan before arriving in Mumbai on the 23rd for a friend's wedding. I have to leave back to the US from Mumbai on the 29th. But I was thinking it would be fun to take a side trip somewhere somewhere not too far (meaning no more than 3-4 hours away) from Mumbai for the 26-28th of December. I'm looking for something not too touristy and not too expensive. Maybe something near a beach or some ruins, some interesting villages or some spiritual place. Anyone have any suggestions?

Beaches - Kihim / Alibaug / Kashid / Daman
Hill stations - Matheran / Malshej Ghat
