Nainital/Binsar in Dec 09
Thanks to IndiaMike for providing such a great platform to share/ask travel info. And thanks to the users who have been so helpful and giving life to this forum.
I have been seeking info from the exiting threads for quite some time now, hwever I thought I should post my query believing that i will get the most optimal option. We (couple) have plans to visiting Nainital during December 09 (8th -11th), 3 nights 4 days. Have booked the train ticktes too. Now, I am not sure about Travel and Stay, I will reach Kathgodam on 8th morning and have to return to the same point on 11th evening. One option is a package from a Hotel in Nainital with pickup and drop for 3 nights, however I wanted to spend a day in Binsar too (based on the recommendations by IndiaMike users). So, 2 nights in Nainital and 1 night in Binsar is something I am looking for. Need advice on the same and any recommendation and assistance in travel and stay options is most welcome. Thanks again! and hoping to have a great holiday with your help. |

Satish, I would suggest you proceed straight to Binsar on the 8th morning, from Kathgodam.
The only place to stay at Binsar is the KMVN tourist rest house. There is a Mahindra resort too, but I would not recommend that at all. If you like Binsar, stay on, and if you don't you can come back to Nainital on the 8th itself! Your travel dates seem to be during off season and you should not have a problem finding suitable hotels in Nainital. |

But have a problem with KMVN, heard that there is no electricity. Wont that be a problem, I mean we will have celphones and cams which needs to be charged. Also for this plan, do you recommend booking a cab for whole 3 day duration ? |

Satish, KMVN will supply power for three hours every evening; that's bath & dinner time!
For a one day stay surely all the batteries will not need to be recharged. You do not need to keep a taxi for your entire stay. Get dropped at Binsar. Take the mobile number of the driver and ask for the taxi when you need. I'm sure the hotel desk will also be able to arrange taxis. At Nainital also, if you at all plan to move out anywhere, you can use trip hire taxis for Sat Tal, Bhim Tal, Naukuchiya Tal etc... |

Do consider a trip to Jageshwar from Binsar before going on to Nainital. It is not far.

I would just stay put in Nainital or Binsar, and not think of side-attractions. Perhaps you are going for rest and recreation, and just have three days. Jageshwar is a nice choice.

Nope, it is not, but it is possible, easily, to leave Binsar around breakfast in the morning, visit Jageshwar for awhile and be in Nainital well before sundown
Short lazy trip, I would have knocked off Nainital. |

I can consider removing Nainital from my plan, but never thought of it yet. My wife, was interested in 'Cable car' ride, 'snow view point' and lake boating. And I did consider Nainital as there are some nice (bit expensive) hotels which will give a luxurious touch to the trip. |

Yes, my family and grandchildren would prefer Nainital to Bedini Bugyal. Cable car, Snow view point, indeed.
