day tour in mumbai

I can recommend you a very good and honest taxi driver that knows Mumbai very well and knows english-not so common...
I got his details in the IM and some of my friends use his service and was very happy with them.
You can see all the important places in 8-10 hours.
IF YOU ARE INTEREST SEND ME PM

I would add Kumbalgarh and Ranakpur on

my way to Jodphur. They were high points of my trip. Probably leave less time for Jodphur. Have fun!

Dear Eopperman,
I hope you have noted down the fact that 2506 won't come to Varanasi but you have to go to Mughalsarai to get into it.

Please have a look at the following info:-
--
You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
2506 NORTH EAST EXP 17-8-2006 MUGHAL SARAI JN NEW JALPAIGURI GENERAL

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 2A Class -3A

2 18- 8-2006 AVAILABLE- 0004 WL 1/WL 1
============================== ================
So, you have to accomodate yourself within the above Quota. Try to grab the Berths on the day of opening of the Booking and to the best of your extent possible, try to prevent yourself from getting entangling in the Waiting List Web!!!!!!!
.......
Also please note, 3AC is already waitlisted for 18th August,2006 for which Booking has opened today morning at 8.00 Hrs. In fact today morning at 8.00 AM, the bookings for 17th August have opened. But for long distance trains, bookings from Intermediate Station also opens on the same day, as for originating station,, as can be seen from the above, though it happens to be 61st day or 62day, 63rd day or 64th day.
----------
Please note December-month is the peak season for Train Journeys in general, and in particular the passengers travelling between Two Intermediate Stations will be at the mercy of limited quotas.

There's a direct overnight train from Jodhpur to Agra, giving the option of leaving Delhi till the end of your trip, this will seem like you've gained half a day.

Train 2308 departs Jodhpur daily at 19:45 and calls at Bharatpur at 05:20 and get to Agra Fort at 06:45.

2 tier air-con (2A) = Rs 1034
3 tier air-con (3A) = Rs 677
Sleeper class (SL) = Rs 260 (not air-con)

you sure you are south african? That itinerary has been planned with German precision - cant help but think you are biting off a big chunk of India in a short short time - my only advice would be to take a day out of Jodhpur and put an extra day in Udaipur - give yourself a break after a long international flight...or alternatively miss Jodhpur altogether and go Udaipur - Pushkar then onto Delhi from there - there is a direct overnight train Udaipur to Ajmer from where it is just over the hill to Pushkar - but then again, depends how much you like israelis?? But Pushkar definately over Jodhpur.

Varanasi - Schindia GH - if it is the same place I am thinking about, is a dive... you will be much better off down on the river where it is much quieter - there are some great guest houses around Assi Ghat now, the most chilled out spot in varanasi. I always stay in Temple on Ganges which is very clean, relaxing - but no booze and only veg food permitted. As you are going to be there peak season, you want to avoid the Goudolia area of varanasi for accommodation, too much tourist hassle around there. happy travels, dil.

I did most of what's on your itinerary (except Delhi) but like the previous poster said, it does seem like quite a large chunk in too little time. Unless you are able to book ALL your train tickets before you leave, you should leave some room to be flexible about the itinerary, as I learned myself the hard way.

Spend more time in Udaipur and a little less in Jodhpur. If you'd prefer you could even skip Jodhpur and head for Jaisalmer, which was the highlight of my trip. There is a Delhi-Jaisalmer Express that you can catch.

For accommodation, I recommend Shahi Palace or Desert Boys' Guesthouse if you decide to head to Jaisalmer, and Durag Niwas for Jodhpur. Stayed at Scindhia GH in Varanasi... wasn't really a dive, but the non-AC rooms were badly ventilated, and staying in Godoulia is stressful. When I paid a visit to Assi Ghat, I knew I should have stayed there instead.

I fully agree. Stay an extra night in Udaipur and one less in Jodhpur (or even skip it and stay longer in Udaipur)

Dil - Thanx for your reply. I know that the trip is quite hectic. We did a similar trip two years back and it was great! (And yes, I am a born and bred South African, and did a lot of research on the itinerary ... I had a great laugh about the German precision!)We are thinking of taking an earlier flight to Udaipur when we arrive - the long internation flight may be a bugger!

Skinny - thanx a mil for your reply as well. Have been to Jaisel on our previous trip and stayed at Desert Boys in the Fort - it was AMAZING! However, we wish to see a great deal of India in the shortest time. I will however re-consider to stay longer in Udaipur than in Jodhpur. I recon that it will take about 7 more trips to see the whole of India so we taking baby steps here! We absolutely adore the place and could honestly recommend it to all (although fellow South Africans frown when you say you are going to India for a second time). Skinny, yes we intend to book all our flights and train tickets before we leave.

Casey - thanx also. What would you recommend on the sight-seeing front in Udaupur if we stay there longer?

In another life (I think) I've already replied to this.......anyway....

You could get a direct overnight train from Jodhpur to Agra and leave Delhi for the end of your trip.

If you wanted to miss Jodhpur you could get an overnight train from Udaipur to Bharatpur, then a bus to Fathepur Sikri or Agra.

All train details below.

Mumbai driver?

Does anyone have contact information for the driver that Ronago mentions or another suggestion? I sent PM to Ronago as well as the OP but have not heard from either of them and it is over a week. I have about 6 hours in Mumbai and having a driver would probably make seeing things more efficient before heading to airport for domestic flight. Thanks, Edward
