Mumbai - Udaipur - Jaipur - Agra - Delhi - Goa. Travel Itinerary advice needed please

Hello

This is my first post so I would just like to take the chance to say this website is amazing.

A big thank you to everyone who takes time to give advice that helps novices like me. The wealth of experiences posted are mind blowing. All of the posts have been helpful and informative which have helped me to start preparing my trip to India. (I will post my India experience when I return)

I have drafted an initial itinerary but I would like help and advice to ensure I make best use of my time in India.

The only concrete plans so far are that my girlfriend and I have return flights booked to Mumbai 25/02/09 - 16/03/09 (20days). We would like 1/2 of our holiday to be sightseeing and sampling culture and the other 1/2 to be rest and relaxation.

We would like help with the following:

- Are we spending too much or too little time in each place?
- Are our methods of transport to and from each location ok or could we travel better?
- Does anyone know if our accommodations or good or can anyone reccommend good places to stay?
- Are there more sights that we should see but I have not listed and the opposite?
- Are we just going to the tourist places when there are more important sights/locations that we could see?
- Any other advice, hints, tips etc please reply.

No of full days (approx) in each location:

1.0 = Mumbai
2.0 = Udaipur
2.5 = Jaipur
1.0 = Agra
1.0 = Delhi
10.0 = Goa

On Day 4 you can do Ranakpur in day time.

On Day 7 you must include Red Fort, Fatehpur Sikri. May include Sikandra, Itmad-ul-Daulah's Tomb and Chini Ka Rauza too.

On Day 8 you should start early morning, else you will have no time for site seeing.

Delhi Siteseeing must include Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar

At Mumbai you may stay at Hotel Lawrence at Fort. And what do you mean by Bollywood film ? Want to catch a show or want to see film shooting.... the latter is very difficult....

I thought Delhi would have to be a very early start to see the sights. Do you think the main Delhi sights can be seen in the small amount of time or should I plan more time?

I wanted to experience the atmosphere of going to see a Bollywood show.

Thank you for replying. I will make sure we go and see the places you have listed.

You have written that you's start at 15:30 from Agra to Delhi. Then how do you plan to do site seeing at Delhi on that day ?

You can't visit any sites, only shopping is possible....

Thank you

Is it worth spending more time in Delhi to see other things?

Wink

Hello,

My suggestion is that please spend some more time in Delhi... following places are must see

- Akshardham Temple (takes somewhere around 5 hours if including boat tour showcasing glorious past inside it - best time to visit is around 4 or 5 PM as then they also arrange a musical fountain)
- India Gate
- Humayun Tomb
- Safdarjung Tomb
- Red Fort
- Jama Masjid
- Bangla Sahib Gurudwara
- Birla Temple
- Connaught place
- Janpath Market
- Jantar Mantar

Regards
Ajay
