Mumbai-Delhi-Haridwar-Agra trip

Hello! We are trying to plan a trip where we can cover Delhi-Haridwar-Agra in a total of 3 days. We have been to Delhi and Agra before but really want to see the Taj Mahal again and a few sites in Delhi. In Haridwar, we need to disperse ashes in the Ganges.
We are Indian-Americans and are having a tough time coordinating the most comfortable and efficient way to get around. We read that Delhi to Haridwar is 4-6hrs by car (but bad roads) and 4hrs by train. But then, Haridwar to Agra is 9hrs!! We don't have much time and don't want to be in a car the whole time--any advice on how to coordinate the trip so we can hit all 3 places from Mumbai in 3 days? We would like to save where we can but in this case, comfort/efficiency trumps cost. Thanks!

I can only think of 1 way to do all that in 3 days, and it's not a great option.

Train 8238 departs Saharanpur daily at 00.30 and gets to Agra Cant at 09.10 (2A, 3A, SL.)(be careful with the date when booking)

Saharanpur is about 70 kms from Haridwar, but it's a very big city and a local transport hub, for such a late departure a taxi would be the best option from Haridwar.
