Post Major Vs Minor destinations

Ok. This is about the status of the destinations.
Here’s what we have listed as Major & Minor at Indiamike.

Are there any candidates from the ‘Minor Destinations’ category dashed into the Major category? Also are there any losers in the Major category slipped into the minor’s list??

Tamil Nadu Mamallapuram, Pondicherry, Auroville, Madurai, Kodaikanal, Ooty, and others

Uttar Pradesh & Uttaranchal Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Lucknow, Varanasi,

Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Corbett Tiger Reserve

West Bengal Darjeeling and other areas in West Bengal

Agra The Taj Mahal, rising costs, warnings.

Delhi Questions about New Delhi, hotels, restaurants, and basic survival tips.

Goa Beaches to bars

JaipurThe Pink City, Hotels, Pizza huts, and gems

Mumbai (Bombay)All the glitz of big city life

Varanasi Benares, Kashi, the City of Lights

Minor Destinations

Bangalore Do the Pub Crawl in the IT world
Chennai (Madras) Southern India's big city Life
Kolkata (Calcutta) Surviving the "City of Joy" General tips on Calcutta and the surrounding area.

This is how i will sort it.

As a tourist destination...i think Chennai and Bangalore....rank way below Delhi and Bombay.

Or, is Chennai / Bangalore / Kolkatta major destination according to you , because, from these places...u can get to all other places.

yep. me too thought of some mismatch here and there in the list. But then there is nothing like major/minor officialy. So i thought of posting this so that some suggestions and openion would emerge.

Also I think the status of a destination changes with time (more like fashion) .

Kovalam (in Kerala) was boasted as a major tourist place at least in the south. Now it's a scrap yard (becouse) of tourism.

You guys and girls can bang out a new order and I will see what I can do about changing it. I think at the time I wrote it I was just in a rush job to get it online and never really noticed it much.

Nice Avatar...

I see a whole NEW destination classification coming up.. !

Tamil Nadu gets some bad press.. But one of my favs..
Orissa - some hidden gems
Rajasthan - OK, loads of touts etc, but surely India's biggest honeypot !
Gujarat - classic
Kerala - how could you miss ?
Chennai - ( sorry .. )
Why only Jaipur ?
Goa.. Yes, but so much more...

How about some kind of poll .. ?

leave it to the visitor.

Major or minor..doesnt reaaly matter so long what exprience a tourist gets in to him.
At times a minor destination can really provides an elevation of exprience.

So let it go with the soul search..not the category...
smiles for all.

yep, sometimes somehow i like the 'minor' destinations. mostly becouse of the absence of the tourist-tout duo & the associated chaos

It looks to me like the "Major Destinations" are all cities and "Minor Destinations" are states. So if you wanted information about Jaipur, Rajasthan, you'd look under "Major" and find Jaipur. If you wanted information about Mandawa, Rajasthan, you'd look under "Minor" and post the question in the Rajasthan topic.

They should really only be changed if traffic calls for it--that is, if the Topic "Minor Destinations: Punjab" is overrun by posts about Amritsar, then perhaps Amritsar should have its own "Major Destinations" category. If the "Major Destinations: Bangalore" is empty, no one ever posts to it, then perhaps it should be collapsed into "Minor Destinations: Karnataka." But if the traffic is working, then it's working.

Beach, you're a troublemaker!

Just change major to "cities" and minor to "regions" or "provinces," or just merge major and minor. No need to have value judgments.
Then check whether Bangalore, Chennai, etc. get lots of threads and if not just merge them into the regions.
