Madurai to Puri in 20 days!!!???

We need your input. We are planning to visit either end of Jan or early Feb 2008. We would like to visit Madurai, thanjuwar, trichy,
karaikkudi, swamimalai, pondicherry, mahaballipuram, chennai,
tirupathi, hydrabad, puri, bhubaneshwar etc.
We have picked these places so we can see temples, architecture,
chettiars havelis and food, beach area.
Please provide your suggestions for itinearney since we have time
and we are flexible. We also love wild life and bird watching.
Please also suggest other places.
Feel free to provide input for even one or two area based on your
experience.
Thanks.
We plan to rent car/driver for part of the trip and train/air as appropriate. We will be coming from either Mumbai or Banglore
and go to Ranchi or kolkata from Orissa.

That would be a very hectic trip: 12 (or more) towns in 20 days -- the equivalent of "it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium" sort of travelling.

How do you plan to travel? Train and bus? Or with a hired car and driver?

Arriving in Bangalore would be much more efficient than travelling from Mumbai.

Thanks for your respose., wonderwomanusa.
20 days begin in Tamilnadu ( mumbai to banglore is extra days)
May be we do not cover all or we need additional 5 to 7 days
and skip one or two or more places. That is ok. We do not want
to rush as you suggested. We want to move slowly and enjoy.
We will rent a car with driver for all of Tamilnadu. Then take
train, then car etc.
Please provide ideas. May be our plan is too long and detailed,
so we are not getting input. may be i should break it down into
many threads and bring it in diggerent places.
Thanks for your patience and please guide us how to best get
input.

After completing the Tamil Nadu section (Madurai, thanjuwar, trichy, karaikkudi, swamimalai, pondicherry, mahaballipuram, chennai)...lastly at Chennai...from there take a train and come to Tirupati. From Tirupati take a train to Hyderabad.

2733 NARAYANADRI EXP TIRUPATI 18:25 SECUNDERABAD JN 06:25 (daily)

2763 PADMAVATHI EXP TIRUPATI 17:05 SECUNDERABAD JN 05:50

Hyderabad to Bhubaneshwar

2704 FALAKNUMA EXP SECUNDERABAD JN 16:00 BHUBANESWAR 10:50 (daily)

7016 VISAKHA EXP SECUNDERABAD JN 17:00 BHUBANESWAR 15:10 (daily)

8646 EAST COAST EXP HYDERABAD DECAN 10:00 BHUBANESWAR 07:30 (daily)

In Bhubaneshwar, visit Lingaraj temple...then Konark...and then can proceed to Puri by car. You can also go directly to Puri without staying at Bhubaneshwar and take a whole day conducted tour from Puri to visit these temples (but they give less time).

There are other trains also in all sections. I have provided the overnight ones for comfortable journey. But book well in advance.

You can come back to Kolkata from Puri by overnight trains.
