Learning Sanskrit in India?

I would like to go to India for the first time with the purpose of studying Sanskrit for 4-6 weeks. I'm looking for something like this:

-Communication must be in English.

-I would like to be in Tamil Nadu. Is study of Sanskrit still popular here even though there are also Dravidian ancient texts to study? If there are other places in India with more opportunities for studying Sanskrit, I don't mind going there instead.

-The teaching can be secular or religious, but I hope the religious teaching is not simply memorizing chanting. Are there any ashrams known for teaching the language?

-It would be helpful if food and lodging could be taken care of with the study.

-The study should be available on short notice and flexible in timespan. That is: I don't want to go to a university because they have admission, deadlines, and a set semester length.

I don't know anything about finding resources, so please be as specific as possible. Thanks!

I hope you have some prior knowledge of Sanskrit and are not a newbie because Sanskrit is not a language you can learn in 4-6 weeks. You won't even get to the basics. My mom has been learning for 5 years and still feels she has so much more to learn.

From my mother's experience I can tell you that the communication is in English and there are no religious overtones, other than the various Gods and Goddesses one may or may not encounter in the literature you will read. and lterature is at the advanced level. There's no chanting either unless you join some ashram.

MangoKulfi: I have a basic knowledge of Sanskrit from studying alone but it needs to be improved . Also, I was thinking of the 4-6 weeks as being intensive lessons, up to 8 hours a day if I could find something like this.

Thanks for your responses. Any more specific information is always welcome.
