hey gill sahab!
are you doing it solo? and how much riding experience you have in hills?
are you sure you want to do it via jammu..? i would suggest to do it via manali and come back via srinagar jammu...

two reasons for this:
1. at the starting of the trip, the body is fresh and can cover more distances than covering when coming back (you know we travellers hate to get back home!)
2. as the body is fresh, it oughts to see more and more, in my opinion it is more scenic when doing via manali than srinagar...

cheers!

SSA Hanjrah ji,
to answer u i will be doin it with one of my friend.
I hav riding experience on hills but not in north. mostly in Maharashtra, thts y m lil concerned.
traveling via manali is no problem its juz i got my family in Amritsar, n i wanted to use my energy to see J&k. got my buddies in manali so i can halt there for some time n can recharge my batteries.

but i can give a thought on ur suggestion too..

it will be grt if u could help me with the road details n places to visit n stay as i hav never been to jammu or himachal

but be rest assure becoz i can make this trip in one go.

well in that case, best of luck for your trip...here is a rough itinerary for your plan:

day 1 : amritsar - srinagar (450 kms approx) if you dont want that much of kms on your odometer in one day, halt at jammu

day 2 : srinagar sightseeing (dal lake, shikara ride, mughal gardens etc.

day 3 - srinagar - kargil (201 kms approx)
day 4 - kargil - leh (230 kms approx)
day 5 - leh (arrange for inner line permits and local sightseeing) take it easy the first day at leh as you MIGHT be hit by AMS, certain symptoms are mild headache...

day 6 - leh - khardungla - turtuk - hunder
day 7 - hunder - leh
day 8 - leh - spangmik (pangong tso) - leh (320 kms approx) only attempt if feasible and if time, otherwise there are some staying options and return to leh the following day

day 9 - leh - sarchu (via tanglang la)
day 10 - sarchu - manali (via rohtang)
day 11 - manali (rest and local sightseeing)
day 12 - manali to amritsar

this is a very tight schedule means if you follow this strictly, you could end up riding all day all the days! so i suggest to take is slow and moreover you can add more places which i havent added into the itinerary such as tso moriri, tso kar, batalik, thikse, wari la etc...refer to maps.google.com

things to carry:
medicines (diamox is a must for ams)
first aid box

tools:
.puncture kit
.extra tubes for both the tires
.foot pump (or electric foot pump if you have the charger installed on your bike)
.10 litre of cans to carry the extra fuel

toiletries

woolen clothes
windcheater
riding gear for your own safety

and that would be it i guess!

best of luckk!

cheers!

If i am not wrong then Siachen Glacier will be out of your reach as it is a restricted place and you need to get prior permission from the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.
Gurinder Singh Gill ji i would suggest you to just do a bit of home work and go through various threads on this site and on other sites on the net.
There are lot of things you need to prepare and carry with you to make this a success trip. Starting from the bike you intend to go to small small things like chocolate bars and all.
If you can go on for 20-30 days and even more then you really need to plan your trip wisely and make it a memorable experience of your life.
Most important things to take care are...
1. You Bullet should be fine tune to go on such rugged terrains and should have a luggage rack and 2 extra can for petrol. Should have to learn to repair minor faults like changing and adjusting cables, repairing punctures, checking oil, etc etc the more you learn the more beneficial it may be to you in time of your needs. And finally the water proof cover, spares, tools including a tow away hook and cord/rope/cable.
It is a long list...
2. First Aid Box complete including your personal medicine and medicine for common symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loose motions, fever, headache, etc, etc.
3. Your cloths...A full body armor suit is preferred. If not then go for a good quality wind breaker/ wind cheater, better if it is fully water proof. Good quality googles/sunglass. Helmet with full face covered preferably a good quality one. Good quality gloves and inner.
4. If you can and would prefer to...then have your one 2 men tent. Cooking stove, utensils and a bit of your ration including maggie, including chocolate bars, etc. (I have these things always whenever i go on my trip, cooking own food and sleeping in ones own tent, the feeling is different).
Cords-static as well as dynamic. Rucksack and duffel bags to house all your things and to be tightly secured at the back of bike in the luggage rack. The bags should be waterproof and water proof covering of the bags also. And dont forget to carry a napsack.
These are some essential thing you will need to make your trip a success. Mind you it is in no way an exhaustive list.

Zanskar and Drass are worth visiting.
Just make adjustment for Khardungla from Leh. Highest motorable road (actually second highest).
In and around Manali one day may not be sufficient. Also if you can go on for a stop at Manikarn, on your way to Chandigarh. It has hot water springs where you can take bath... believe me all your tiredness will vanish after taking a dip in it, It is also a place of religious importance.

Thanks Guys for your suggestions. really appreciate that.

@Mr. Hanjrah: Bro i tried finding road on Google map but after yagulung map stop showing me the directions, so i thought there might be a different route or some thin...
and with respect to your 2nd post: i actually have 30days plan.can add 5 more days to bike tripso please help me with necessary modification. remaining 5 days m keeping a buffer.

@Poisonspy: Dude regarding food and other materials m all prepared. got good experience about all that. My only concern is about "bike break down" as u said i need to learn to repair minor faults like changing and adjusting cables, repairing punctures.
1st i was in plan of taking 2 bikes n 4 member which includes one friend of mine who is a mechanic but that is not possible for now.

Bro can you please add this in my itinerary and get me a proper itinerary with the days detail.
How far is Khardungla from Leh. i hav kept 2 free days in leh to visit near by places.
How much time do u think i should give to "Manila"
and sure i can take out time for "Manikarn"

once again thanks guys for helping our.

Day 12: Bro i will be covering Leh to Changa La to Pan Gong Tso in one day.
Day 13: Pan Gong Tso to tso kar. juz the traveling its a long journey so will try to look for a place to rest in between if i can find one.Might be in upshi Village (what do you think can i find one there)
Day 14: Spend whole day in Tso kar and Tso Moriri and thn look for the nearest place to sleep.
Day 15: travel to wards Manali.
so in a way m giving one and half day to tso kar and Tso Moriri and same for manali.

Guys if i go to Warshi from leh... can i go lil more lik 20km more from there...(warshi to wards north...) is that possible
by doing tht i can at least get a view of siachen glacier.

sorry for late reply!

going beyond panamik is not allowed for civilians (as i've never heard anyone mentioning anything about visiting the place), again if such is the case, prior permission is required from delhi (dc office or the army base, not sure) and if not then you can visit the place with ILP at your hand!

and for the places that you are not sure if you need ILP, you can ask at dc office leh and they will provide you with all the required information, if not then you can ask any of the local tourist office!

there's nothing much to do at shimla, in my opinion its over crowded hill station, you can visit the mall, then head to kufri...well i cant recall of anything else!

your itinerary is good, covering great deal of distances without returning to the base ie. LEH, but in this case you need to carry great deal of fuel with you from leh itself as you wont encounter any filling station in that area, and moreover enfields gulp petrol like anything!
leh - tso moriri - tandi is itself 550 kms and you are adding up another 300 - 400 kms to that...ask yourself can your bullet do 550 kms in one go without refilling the fuel? my guess would be a big NO! think accordingly
from manali side, tandi is the last filling station for the next 350 kms, hope you take this into consideration before finalizing the itinerary

cheers!

ya i was wondering abt tht too... spoke to couple of local tour companies on phone and they told me its not allowed to go beyond Tso Pangong.

So my route to go from Tso Pangong to Nyoma will not work.

By the way is it of any use visiting Nyoma. can i skip it. if so than i will can come back to leh from tso Panhong and than can head to Tso Kar and tso Moriri.

Regarding fuel station: i got this one another travel website

Petrol Pumps enroute Manali-LEH-Srinagar
1. Manali
2. Tandi, 111 kms from Manali
3. Upshi, no PP, AFAIK
4. Karu, 345 kms from Tandi, 30 kms before Leh (Petrol Pump Round)
5. Shey, 8 kms before Leh (Petrol Pump Round)
6. Leh (Round), at the junction of the Manali-Srinagar roads
7. Desikit, 1 km after town on the road to Hunder
8. Mulbek, 197 kms from Leh (Petrol Pump Round), 2 kms before Mulbek Maitreya Buddha, 42 kms before Kargil
9. Kargil, 3 kms before town on the road to Leh
10. Sonmarg, 14 kms after town on road to Srinagar, 138 kms from Kargil, 76 kms before Srinagar
11. Gund, at Mangan town, 2 kms before Mangan, 29 kms after Gund towards Srinagar
12. Srinagar, several pumps

Also at:
13. Khaltse, 2 kms before town, 97 kms from Leh (Petrol Pump Round)
14. After Leh Airport, 15 kms from Leh (Petrol Pump Round)

and u can always carry 2 ltr bottles and big cans.

My only concern was Nubra vally and Hunder but we got a fuel pump at "Desikit" so i think i can work it out.
