Hi..
Trip plan ready for Nov 2017. Train tickets booked, stay at Coorg blocked for 3 nights. We are 7 adults & 2 kids this year.

Schedule:
Day 1: Reaching Kozhikode @ 13:40 -- Wayanad (Sultan Bathery)
Day 2: Wayanad Sight Seeing
Day 3: Early morning leave for Ooty, stay @ Ooty
Day 4: Evening leave Ooty -- Mysore
Day 5: Mysore Sight Seeing
Day 6: Mysore -- Coorg
Day 7: Coorg
Day 8: Coorg
Day 9: Coorg -- Murdeshwar & same day catch train from Bijoor to Mumbai @ 22:45

We will be hiring a dedicated vehicle, am aware the itinerary is a bit fast paced but with a budget to maintain & high expectations this is what I could build. Still Flexible to make changes for Day 1 – Day 5.

Advice needed on:
• Best places to eat
• Should we prebook rooms or do it on destination, with GST online room prices have increased. Expectation are basic i.e. airy rooms, comfortable bed, clean linen & washrooms. Budget around 1k. Since the purpose is only to sleep & freshen up
• Must see attractions on all above places
• Suggestions on must buy items

It will take you around 8 hours to reach Murudeshwar from Coorg.

Hi Aarosh,

I agree the travel from coorg to Murdeshwar would be very long (I have still kept this optional, if we skip will catch the train from mangalore), any information on the road condition, traffic we might come across. Any other interesting location/sites that we should cover enroute to murdeshwar.

@Abhi,

Your plan has too many look-alike Or similar places . Overall Ooty,Coorg and wayanad all has same greenery, Cold climate , Tea Plantations, Scenic Views/Spots and Im not sure if you want to spend almost all time in different hills of three different states.

Out of 3, Wayanad is much better compared to coorg and ooty and ooty you could include if you do Toy train in the "Downward journey" (From ooty to mettupalaiyam) and if you are in "First class" carriage (This coach is just next to engine with almost 270 degree view of the scenery around ) which is not the case with second class coaches .

As per my travels, I would say wayanad need 2-3 days, Coorg (2 Days) and ooty (2-3 Days) and Mysore (2-3 days) to visit the Must-see places.

Please confirm whether you would like to do all three hilly areas . If so, you need to alter your travel plan and it needs to be Mumbai-Mysore-Coorg-Wayanad-Ooty-Toy train to Mettupalaiyam-Coimbatore (Train back to Mumbai). Coorg and wayanad districts are adjacent to each other and both could be clubbed together. For sure Murdeshwar is odd man out in your whole itenary and you could probably do a separate Murdeshwar-Gokarna-Jog falls-Shringeri-Kollur-udupi in your next trip. If Still you want to include murdeshwar, you could do by taking more than one train :Coimbatore-Mangalore-Murdeshwar-Mumbai.

Hope this is of some help.

Hi Velu,

Appreciate your detailed inputs.

Have couple of self created obstacles now, to make changes in our plan.
* Trains tickets already booked to & fro i.e. Mum - Kozhikode & Mangalore - Mum
* Have to utilize my my Club Mahindra stay for 3 nights (currently considering Coorg Madikeri) & am wishing it to be in the last leg of the trip

Apart of this I am still very flexible to alter my trip.

I second Velu's remark about the similarity of the Hill stations.
My suggestion is to skip Ooty and divide the extra time between Wayanad and Mysore.

Skip Mysore and Ooty. Spend time in Wayanad and Ooty. If you want you could do Sringeri / Udipi as a night halt before going to Murudeshwar.

As you have a car with you it should be okay to check the rooms and book once you reach there.

@Abhi,

Based on your inputs,

Day 1,2,3 : Wayanad [ Include Pookoot lake, Thamaraserry Ghat road view point, Chembara oeak view point, Kuruwadweep Island, Banasura dam, Soochipara Waterfalls,Thirunelli temple, Iruppu Falls / temple (Coorg district but very close to thirunelli temple] --> As you have cab all through, you could ask the driver to plan all these places for the 3 days --> IN Wayanad, Start all days bit early (Around 6.30 am and end your trip around 5:30 pm)
Day 4,5,6 : Mysore [ Palace,Zoo,KRS Gardens( Best time to visit 5-8 pm),Karanji lake ,Chamundi Hills(Best time to visit 5- 7 pm),Shrirangapatna tourist spots ( Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary, Mukoodal / Sangama, Tippu sultan tomb, Tippu Summer palace), Talakkad (Interesting Village with tens of temples partially buried under the sand), Somanathpura Hoysala temple ( Look alike of Belur/ halebeedu), Shivasamudra Waterfalls (visit both Gaganachukki / barachukki waterfalls - Check on water levels before proceeding))
Day 7,8,9 : Coorg : Bylekuppe Tibetan Village (Second largest Tibetian population in india next to dharamsala) , Dubare elephant camp, Cauvery nishagadhama, Raja's seat ( Best time to visit 5-7 pm and it will be with full of tourists . If possible Visit again at around 5:30 am to 6:30 am. This place will be ONLY with local people doing exercises and the vista all around will be stunning .), Abbey waterfalls, Bhagamandala temple Talacauvery.

General :-
0) I skipped few places in wayanad as it wont fit in with "Kids" . Please be aware, almost every place in wayanad need a bit of walking . Also all waterfalls in Coorg need 2 km to & fro soft walking .
1) you could include one wildlife safari . My suggestion Tholpetty WLS ( wayanad) --> This is very close to Thirunelli temple OR Nagarahole NP ( Mysore DT ) --> Very close to thirunelli temple / Iruppu Falls. It's worth and both are relatively lesser crowded and chances of deer/ elephant sighting is more when compared to the other sanctuaries nearby. My favourite is nagarahole NP.
2) you could buy spices at relatively lesser cost in Mananthavady market (Wayanad)
3) If you are interested in "Authentic and pure Silk sarees", you could visit Government Silk emporium located in the campus of Mayura Hoyusala (Government of karnataka hotel ) and this is 100 metres walk from Mysore Junction.
4) URS Road For Shopping in Mysore . This road too has one Government silk emporium.
5) if you are inclined to include ooty, SKIP Mysore and include ooty (For Days 4,5,6) and you could travel to ooty from Wayanad (just 100 kms in super scenic route) . IN ooty&& Coonoor, it's all very much standard tourist places which is all over net and you could easily do all in 3 days. In ooty , Charring cross is the main shopping place. Home made chocolates is MUST BUY. you could buy " tea powder" from government shop which is in Doddabetta peak . For food, Hotel saravana , Charring cross is MUST for Veg and Hyderabadi biriyani house, Charring cross is decent for Non-Veg.

And regarding accomodation, it's very difficult to prebook from travel sites for such a large group. Only option being Airbnb BUT again its very much premium. For 1000 INR/ Night, it might be very difficult at any of the places (probably dormitory kind of stay might work But again not sure whether it will fit within your budget). I understand and agree to your point as it's going to be all day travel and you just need a clean place to sleep. Best of luck in your search

Please post if you need more info.

Velu

Wow.. Velu..

Very interesting & informative again. Have got enough clarity on how to take this forward. I have been shortlisting few hotels from travel sites, can I post thier names here for suggestions as reviews online are mixed for most of the hotels. Where negative reviews are at extreme bad & the positive one being very good ones.

Really confused on pre booking rooms.

Will this be an off season considering Durga puja & Diwali vacations would already be through by Nov this year

Abhi,

Yes you could post hotel names asking for member's opinion . Also do a browse in Tripadvisor and check for the reviews and just by having a glance you could easily spot FAKE reviews (Any hotel with lot of NICE reviews by members with just 1 or 2 posts against their name would mostly be FAKE postings).

Ideally speaking , Nov-Jan is the peak season for all of the places you are interested in. With such a large group not sure whether you could directly visit hotel and bargain for discounts. As per my travel experiences, most of the hotels / home stays NOT able to match the prices I booked through Online travel portals . As you have ample time, Zero in few hotels and send mail telling your requirement and ask for the discounted rates, That might work out .

Hello...... Have shortlisted few Hotels & all your valuable suggestions are welcome

Need one more advice where to stay in Wayanad -- Kapletta or Sultan Bathery? Was considering Sultan Bathery only because it will reduce onward travel time to OOTY/ Mysore. Hope don't end up traveling back to kalpetta for sightseeing places in wayanad.

Wayanad (Sultan Bathery) - Hotel Mintflower / Hotel Great Jubliee

Ooty - YWCA Anandagiri

Mysore - Aishwarya Suites

Abhi, almost 60% of tourist spots of Wayanad are nearer to Kalpetta but nothing much to worry as all the 3 main towns of wayanad (Read Sulthan bathery, kalpetta,Mananthavady) are almost separated by just 20 kms and where you stay at wayanad is no way a issue to travel to ooty/ Mysore.
