Kolkata/Darjeeling/Sikkim

I have 14 days in the area, and despite reading up as much as I can, I'm still unsure how to divide up my time. I'll be arriving in Kolkata in the evening, and at present am just planning to stay the one night, have a full day next day, and catch the train to NJP that night.

It's how to divide the rest of my time that I'm not sure about. I'd be interested to hear how much time people have found to be ideal in Darjeeling. Should I/would I have the time to...go to Kalimpong too? And what are the recommended 'must sees' in Sikkim? Gangtok and Pelling are the main places I have in mind.

I'm sorry if this seems a naive post - but I'm at the early stages of planning my trip (in Late March/early April) and seem to have got 'stuck'.

I was wondering about the same thing, and have similar constraints (except I'm traveling much sooner - I'll arrive in Kolkata Feb 4). So I'm curious to see the responses, here.

Consider adding North Sikkim. The rhododendrons should be blooming in Yumthang right around the time you plan to be in the area. You can stay in a guesthouse in Lachung, but it's busy during that time of year (because of the flowers), so you should consider booking a tour ahead of time. You have to get a permit though a tour agency anyway in order to go into North Sikkim, so you might as well get started on that now.

Itinerary and route in Sikkim

I've been researching the places I'd like to visit in Sikkim, and have about eight days. Could anyone give me an idea of how best to divide my time, and which route would be most efficient and practical? I will have spent the preceding time in Darjeeling, and will be heading back in that direction at the end of my eight days.

I plan to spend time in Gangtok, Pelling, Yuksom and Ravangla. How many nights would you suggest in each, and how would you plan your journey to make the most of the time?

Thanks!
