Kochi to Mysore by bus?

Hi, does anyone know if there is a bus from Kochi to Mysore, and if so, how often does it run, and how long does it take? I was originally planning to get the train from outside Kochi to Coimbatore and then the steam train from Mettulaparam to Ooty, and then bus to Mysore, but apparently, the train has been suspended due to landslides and boulders on the tracks. None of the ticketing offices I've visited seem to have any info about when it might reopen, so I was thinking to just skip Coimbatore entirely and go directly to Mysore from Kochi. Has anyone done this? I know there isn't a train - that only stops in Bangalore, and I'd prefer to do the trip all at once.

Thanks!

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Welcome to IM. There are daily bus services to Mysore some state operated and a lot of private. Some buses to Banglore go through Mysore. The state operated KSRTC buses are available at Ernakulam KSRTC bus stand. Most private operatives like Indira, Sharma, puzhakadavil etc have offices at jos junction (south).

Like etin mentioned above, there are a few buses - both state transport service and private ones - that have services from Cochin to Mysore.Kallada travels(PH:- (0484)2369621) has a daily service(Volvo A/C coach) that departs from Cochin at 5pm to Bangalore. This passes through Mysore at about 3-4 am.Their office is situated opposite the Maharaja's ground.

Private busses are mostly night travelling ones.. If you need a quick transit and without bothering time AND if you okie with the transport bus there are couple of direct transport busses from kochi bus stop to Mysore everyday.. Else you can take the hourly bus to Calicut which is a nice break for the journey and take another bus (almost hourly again) to mysore though the winding paths of Wynad..

Its quite possible that you may choose to get down in Wynad thanks to the wonderful scenery around.

Bloody dangerous if you find yourself in front of one. They seem to figure quite frequently in fatal accident reports in the newspapers here.

Apart the ones that fall off mountain roads, however, I don't hear too bad a stories about being a passenger on one!

Try Shama Transports, they have Volvo deluxe busses
from Cochin to Bangalore passing through Coimbatore & Mysore.

There is also Sharma as someone has allready mentioned,I think Sharma have their office right next door to Grand Hotel on MG Road.
