KGP-Chennai-Coonor, May 8-17, 2010
I am making an official + pleasure trip. The tentative plan is as follows:
May 7th, dep KGP for Chennai (MAS) by Coromandel Exp arriving May 8th (Sat) around 1700 hours.
May 8-9th nights, stay at IIT-M guest house.
May 9th, visit IIT-M
May 10-11, Solar company outside Chennai
From May 11th night , I am flexible and was thinking of the following (I want to go to Coonoor).
May 11th Night train to Coimbatore, arriving at 5 am or so and then to Coonoor by Niligiri Exp. On second thought, I might as well go to Mettupalayam (MTP) since Coonoor is closer to MTP and this train reaches there around 0615 hours.
On the return I have seen availability from MAS to KGP on May 19th morning by Coromandel Exp (1AC - 1 available as of this morning), departure 0845 hours. If I leave MTP on May 18th night by Niligiri Exp, I will get to MAS around 0600 hours and so should be able to make the connection.
The above would mean 6 nights in Coonoor which may be too much.
So, what are the other choices? I was thinking of booking the train reservation this morning to be on the safe side and if need be I can cancel later (I do all online booking & payment).
Other places that I would like to go to also on this trip.
Some of the places that I would like to go are:
Mysore
Kerala backwaters near Allepey, Kochi (probably too humid & hot)
A possibility is to go from Chennai to Coonoor, spend the nights of May 12, 13, 14, 15 and then take an A/C bus (Volvo) to Mysore - I don't suppose thee are any trains.
Your suggestions are welcome.
