Kerala September/October 3 weeks
Hey Mikers,
Off again in September for three weeks and just wanted to run my itinerary across those more familiar with the state of Kerala. Arrive Kochi on the 23rd September 23-25 Fort Kochi 26th bus to Munnar (stay nights of 26th-28th) 29th Bus to Alleppey (My research indicates there is not a direct route but you can get a bus that goes via Thekkady) stay night in Alleppey 30th/Sept - 2 October Backwater cruise to Alumkadavu 2 October - 7th Varkala (5 nights) 9th trv to singapore 12th home to Sydney I have two days up my sleeve as I don't plan to leave until the 9th (for two days in Singapore on the way home). Do you think that Periyar/Thekkady would be worthwhile given I am alreaddy spending three days in Munnar? I could slot that in easily as it is on the way to Alleppey. Or should I allocate the extra time to head out to Thrissur from Kochi. Is Kovalam worth a look at all if I am spending time in Varkala? Any feedback welcome. Thanks Grant |

Good Day Grant, I too was going to head for Thekkady after Munnar but changed my mind & spent extra time in Munnar after recieving very average reports about Thekkady area.
Also wouldn't waste time trying to get to kovalum if you are allready staying in Varkalha. If you need any reccomendations for place to stay in Munnar, such as a Homestay, I know of rip snorter, cheap, clean & overlooking town, 3 min walk to town. Also know of fantastic homestay on main backwater canal in Allepey, same as above, cheap, clean & great location. Send me a PM if you need any info. Rgds - Paul Vandy ![]() |

You can do Kanyakumari to know a different India from what you would see in the days in Kerala.. Can fit in well with a train out from Varkala (possible change in trivandrum) and stay one/two nights there to come back for your fligth back.
