Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu - january 2009
Hello!
I'm planning a trip to South India this january. I've already spent in India a few months, but in the north and a few years ago so I need some advices. I'll be in Mumbai the 9th of january, in the morning, and I'd like to catch a train to Gokarna the same day to spend there 4 days. Then, Hampi (4 days) (night bus) Bangalore (2 days) Mysore (2 days) (night bus) Kochi (2 days) Munnar (3 days) Kottayam & Alappuzha (3 days) Trivandrum (1 day) Madurai (2 days) Podicherry (2 days) Chennay (2 days) internal flight Mumbai Then, I'll be in Mumbai abt 3 days and I have to catch a flight to Thailand the 9th of February. I know it is going to be quite at a fast pace, but I'll have time to relax later. Is there anything I didn't put and I shouldn't miss? Anything not worth? It is going to be two of us, me (27) and my partner (37). When I went 2004/05 my budget was of around 700 rupies (I was on my own, with basic but clean room, 1 cheap meal and 1 restaurant meal a day, internet and the odd beer or tour) ... Is it still enough? Any comment or advice is welcome and very much appreciated! ![]() |

I would say skip Bangalore, cut down 1 day in Mysore, instead visit the exquisitely carved Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebid instead
http://www.indiantemples.com/Karnataka/beluarti.html http://www.karnataka.com/tourism/belur/ There is a reasonably priced govt run Hotel Mayura at Belur [reasonably priced chain to use in Karnataka] Secondly, skip TRV, skip or reduce time in Pondicherry, and between Madurai and Chennai, visit Srirangam nr Trichy, and the Tanjore big temple, you can also reduce 1 day in Chennai and visit Mammalapuram before reaching Chennai, nice beaches and monuments there. Mumbai is not worth more than a day - if that, in my opinion. |
