June 9 to June 30 in India. Please advise!

Hello everyone,

My buddy and I are planning on backpacking through India from June 9th to June 30th.

A little bit about ourselves: This is our first time to that part of the world. We are both 22 males and have traveled to most of Western Europe. We are pretty much up for anything so any advice would be great.

We would like to start in Delhi. From there, it is all up in the air. I know we would love to mostly experience "real" India but would also like to visit places where we could meet fellow backpackers.

We would like to travel by train so any itinerary that starts in Delhi and ends in Delhi would be most preferred.

This is very vague, I know. So, if there is anything I can answer for you all, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

June will still be hot in Delhi (and Rajasthan, Agra etc).

Head for the hills, is my advice. Browse the Uttarakhand forum... the ridge just above Almora has quite a few backpackers a lot of the time...

PS: Look up Mukhteshwar/Binsar/Kausani/Nainital/Munsiyari/Ranikhet too, in that forum.

There are never any guarantees, but given a few days, you usually get lucky.

Best time would be to wake up at the crack of dawn and take a look...or a little earlier actually.

Or if you have the time, get close and personal with a little trek to one of the glaciers. You can do a 1 day walk to Dhakouri on the Pindari glacier trek and you'll have the peaks right in your face. Early morning is when it was clear when I was there. Things clouded up as the day wore on.

Thats a pretty good suggestion as well....just keep tabs on the weather...last thing you would want is to have 2 hours of walking left and it begins to pour...

The Delhi Agra Rajasthan region will be hot and furnace like with temps 40C +++. Head for the Himalayan regions of Himachal and Uttaranchal as the monsoons will not set in until mid July. Or head to Goa or Kerala or Tamil Nadu, bearing in mind that its monsoons in these regions. You will get plenty of excellent backpacker advice from actual backpackers on tripadvisor.com

We are going to Delhi on June 9th and our trip is as follows:

Monday 9th June - Delhi
Tuesday 10th June - Delhi
Wednesday 11th June - Delhi
Thursday 12th June - Lucknow
Friday 13th June - Lucknow
Saturday 14th June - Varanasi
Sunday 15th June - Varanasi
Monday 16th June - Varanasi
Tuesday 17th June - Agra
Wednesday 18th June - Agra
Thursday 19th June - Jaipur
Friday 20th June - Jaipur
Saturday 21st June - Jaipur
Sunday 22nd June - Delhi
Monday 23rd June Flight Home

Yes it's going to be HOT but it really doesn't bother my husband and I even though we come from cold, wet, rubbish England.

If you want to keep cool go with the other posts.

We are 26yrs old and 33yrs old, also doing the backpacker thing and want to chill and meet people. Also want to see the Taj and go to the Ganges which are all in the above plan.

We like to have a good drink and a party too so there will be many a Bhang Lassi had and a good few chillums to smoke whilst taking in the wonder of the Ganges at the dushra festival in varanasi
