Could anyone suggest best way to travel from Jodhpur to Udaipur or the other way round by road. How long would the travel take. Since I am going with my parents I would not prefer taking them in bus

Car and driver is your best option. You can stop at Kumbalghar and Ranakpur on the way.I think it was a 10 hour day with the stops. These stops were the Jain Temples in ranakpur,Lunch stop, chai and samosa stop, the fort in Kunbalghar, and a few stops for pictures. I paid 3200 ruppees.Your hotel can arrange this for you. If your interested I stayed at Durag Niwas in Jodphur, they made the driver arrangements for me.

Why would you want to miss Kumbhalgarh or Ranakpur? They are on the route from Jodhpur to Udaipur.
If you go direct you could reach in around 5 hours.

Going with parents. They would not be comfortable travelling for 10hrs in car (a bit tiring for them) even breaks. I would prefer train but there is no such option. So it has to be either flight or car non-stop!

In that case I think it is okay if you skip Kumbhalgarh. Ranakpur, according to me, should be included.
Have you researched about Ranakpur? Ranakpur to Udaipur will be around a 2 / 2 1/2 hours drive.

I'd suggest that a 10 hour day with multiple stops and seeing interesting places enroute is much nicer than a solid 5 hours, especially when you realise that you've missed two wonderful places.

I would not recommend Kumbhalgarh since you are going with your parents. They would have to walk quite some distance to see the different parts of the fort.
Ranakpur should not be missed. Remember photography is allowed only after 12:00. No eatables and phones are allowed inside. There is a cloak room where you can deposit them. You can also have vegetable thali if you reach there before 1:00 pm. It was for around Rs 30/- per plate and it was unlimited (have as much as you want).
You can exchange Kumbhalgarh with Haldighati if you want. The actual place where the battle of Haldighati was fought, the memorial of Chetak (Rana Pratap's horse) and the Haldighati Museum.

Any advises for decent accommodation in Udaipur (within city limits)??? Tariffs seems to be quiet high for the ones mentioned on tripadvisor. Looking for something between 2500/- to 3500/- per night for double bed room in mid November.
