Jaipur to Goa by train - must-see stops in between?

Hello,

We are planning a trip to India next February. We are flying into Delhi and will be going to Agra and on to Jaipur by train to see these sights. After Jaipur we want to head down to Goa, but are wondering if there are any worthwhile stops in between we should consider in our itinerary. We are not interested in going to Mumbai. We are planning a train journey to cover this distance, but as there only seems to be one train that goes from Jaipur to Goa direct on a Friday, if we are unable to make that train on a Friday, what would be an alternative train route we could take where there may be interesting sights along the way other than just going Jaipur to Mumbai and Mumbai to Goa? Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

Bundi is a great place to visit and is 40km from Kota.

Kota to Goa trains.

Note: - the arrival times in Goa are a couple of hours later than they will be in February, there is a monsoon timetable in place until November, and this slows the trains down through the Konkan region.

Another option is to visit Jaipur first and then Agra.

From Agra there are two daily trains to Goa

Places to stops could be
-Jhansi to visit Orchha
-Bhopal for Sanchi and Bhimbetka
-From Jalgaon or Manmad it is possible to visit Aurangabad for the Ellora and Ajanta caves
-Pune

Thanks for the info. Doing a switch and visiting Agra second sounds like a good option, as it offers us more flexibility in traveling to Goa. Goed idee!! :-) Thanks again!

It is likely the best idea, but do check the number of hours on the train to Goa if you go from Agra.
