Itinerary South

New to this site...second trip to India. Needing advice on itinerary and how to get to and from. Starting in Mumbai, Goa, Mysore, Trivandrum and Alleppey, then need to be back in Mumbai to fly home. All in 3 weeks time. Willing to fly and wanting the train experience. What is the best order to do these things in and make the most of my journey?

Mumbai, Goa, Mysore, Trivandrum and Alleppey

It think the best way to do this is
Mumbai - Goa by train or flight
Goa -Alleppey by train or a flight to Kochi
Alleppey - Trivandrum by train
Trivandrum - Bangalore by train/flight and then by bus or train to Mysore
Return to Bangalore and take a plane back to Mumbai.

For train timings see erail

Thank you for your reply. Sounds like a tentative plan! How easy is it to get domestic airline tickets with little notice? Train tickets as well? I hear they reserve a quota for foreigners for rail. Would like to travel with some idea of where I'm going but not on any time schedule until I get there.

I don't know about domestic flights but there is a guide to train travel for tourists here. http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...ts-from-abroad
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

Blog 2013 Indian Railways ARP changed to 60 days on 1st May 2013.

I have the idea that the change to get a ticket for a domestic flight is often better than that for a train.

See this link for the flights for Mumbai Goa for next Thursday
makemytrip.
By some of them it says 'hurry few seats left' so I think for the others there are plenty seats.

I always book domestic flights direct with the flight company with a credit card it is a simple process.
