itinerary review request- himachal pradesh and rajasthan

Hi guys,

This is my first post on this forum and I am planning my first ever trip to India with my hubby. We have 17 days.

We want to visit Himaachal mountains and Rajasthaan.

This is what we plan for Himaachal

DAY 1) fly from delhi to kullu
DAY 2) manali
DAY 3) day trip to rohtang pass ( hopefully this remains open in late october? )
DAY 4) drive to shimla
DAY 5) train from shimla to delhi

Does this sound like a fair itinery? I believe the drives are very scenic so we shouldnt get bored be on the roads too long.

could you guys suggest other itineries or possible ways to improving mine? anything we have missed in Himaachal that is a must see?

I am still thinking about Rajasthan route. Basically, we want to go to Agra, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur.

Your feedback/comments will be very highly appreciated.

No trains from Shimla to Delhi, you have to go Shimla-Kalka-Delhi.

A good timesaver, go Kalka-Bikaner on an overnight train.

Rothang has been out twice already this month, re-opened yesterday after a four day hiatus. YouŽll probably see this repeated a few times before it finally closes. Updates on my blog

thnks for that info. i hope rohtang remains open when i am there coz i so want to experience that.

i believe the road from manali to shimla is always open??? is it nice and scenic driving that 8 hours? i checked in google maps...there seems to be 2 routes. any ideas on which would be better to take(in terms of more scenic)
