Itinerary Logistics Help Needed

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some tips. I am going to India in April and plan to go to Jammu right away from Delhi by flying. I'd like to make the excursion to Vaishnodevi. From all the reading I've done, that trip seems fairly easy. From that what worries me is the logistics behind the rest of my travel. I've heard there are buses from Jammu to Manali to Shimla. Is this true? Must I book them fairly far in advance. I'd like to do this trip on a casual basis without having to follow a rigorous schedule. Any tips on bus service within Himachal Pradesh would be great.

If you have the time, then I suggest you follow the following route:

Jammu - Pathankot - Chamba - Dalhousie - Dharamsala - Kullu - Manali - Kullu - Shimla.

Himachal Pradesh is avery well organised state for tourists and there are a number of private and state owned buses-both deluxe and ordinary- and taxis.

HPTDC runs daily deluxe coaches between Manali and Shimla.
The tourist rush in Himachal begins from mid-April so for any travel after this period, it is better to book your hotels and deluxe coaches in advance.

Himachal is a fascinating destination, have a nice trip !

Thanks Very much, do you think the itinerary you provided will be feasible for a 2 week journey? Also I'm a little paranoid, since I will be arriving in the country and departing on my journey right away, will it be feasible to make the bookings upon arrival in Delhi?

Himachal Pradesh

The itinerary I have suggested will be a bit rushed for two weeks, I suggest you do it in three weeks.

As you will be arriving in April, I suggest you do your hotel bookings latest by mid-February, that is two months in advance. You can book on-line with HPTDC(Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation). See the following link :

http://www.hptdc.nic.in/custsw/viewuser8.asp

You can also book your train tickets(wherever applicable) 60 days in advance of the date of journey, on-line at :

http://www.irctc.co.in

Advance booking is strongly recommended as you will be travelling in the peak season.

As far as HPTDC deluxe coaches are concerned, you can book for the Manali-Shimla journey on reaching Delhi, at HPTDC's Delhi ofice.

All details are provided in their website whose link I've given above.
