Talking Itinerary Help - Feb'08 - 3 weeks

Hi,

Please could you look over my proposed itinerary below, 2 of us will be travelling in Feb'08. We are open to suggestions but there are a few musts - Camel trek, Taj Mahal, Kerala Backwaters. We are happy to travel frequently, do you think the itinerary is achievable?

We have a limited budget so can only afford 1 internal flight, are happy with overnight trains, probably can't afford a car/driver. I know we can't do all of India in 3 weeks but we really want to see as much as possible because realistically it could be years before we get a chance to return.

Day1: Arrive Delhi,
Day2: Delhi
Day3: Delhi
Day4: Delhi morning, afternoon train to Agra
Day5: Agra, OT to Bikaner
Day6: Bikaner
Day7: Bikaner (overnight camel trek)
Day8: Bikaner morning, travel to Jodhpur afternoon
Day9: Jodhpur
Day10: Jodhpur morning, travel to Pushkar afternoon.
Day11: Pushkar
Day12: morning Pushkar, travel to Delhi (possible OT via Ajmer or Jodhpur?)
Day13: Delhi
Day14: Delhi morning, flight to Kochi (Kerala) afternoon
Day15: Kerala
Day16: Kerala (backwaters)
Day17: Kerala (backwaters)
Day18: Kerala
Day19: Kerala, OT to Goa
Day20: Goa, OT to Mumbai
Day21: Mumbai
Day22: Mumbai
Day23: Mumbai/flight home

Thanks for your help!

James

Only one night in Goa? Other than that, seems like a pretty solid itinerary. But, I've said this before and I'll say it again, for me it seems a bit to cramped, but that's because I'm a lazy traveller and like staying at a place for at least a week.

Thanks NSW, yep just one day in Goa, using it as a stop over on way to Mumbai, no time for a longer stay.
Does anyone else have an opinion on the itinerary?

very quick suggestion

get an overnight train from Ajmer to Ahmedabad, then a flight to Kerala from there, you'll have to change in either Mumbai (most likely) or Bangalore, but it should be cheaper and you'll have long enough on the overnight train for a good night's sleep.

Go to see Gandhi's Ashram in Ahmedabad if you have the time.

Train 4311 departs Ajmer (Tu, Th, F, Sa.) at 20:35 and gets to Ahmedabad at 06:15 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Train 2916 departs Ajmer daily at 23:20 and gets to Ahmedabad at 07:40 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.)

------------------

Ajmer to Delhi

Train 9105 departs Ajmer daily at 20:28 Dand gets to (old) Delhi station at 05:30 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.)

I left this thread feeling I was missing something, just worked it out.

There's a morning train from Ajmer to Udaipur (about 5-6 hours), then you can have a day in Udaipur, then fly (Via Mumbai) to Kerala.

I don't know about the flight times though, no time to check, but it's another option.

EDIT - just quickly checked, times, duration and prices are much better from Ahmedabad than Udaipur.

I didn't check Delhi, you can check on the following website.
