Itinerary for just over 3 weeks spent mostly in Rajasthan, feedback very appreciated!
Ok, so thousands of hours of research and I've got a proper itinerary. As you may have guessed, this is my first time properly travelling in India. I am with a friend for the first month, and then on my own for the next three. I am more happy to wing it once I am alone and haven't planned a whole lot beyond what I want to see then.
However, my friend is nervous and does not want to even train from Mumbai to Goa on her own, so I needed to sort out a way of fitting in all I wanted to see with delivering her safely at Goa airport on time! The itinerary below squeezes in most of what I want to see, over the time we have. What I want to know is if I have allowed the right amount of time in each place. Its flexible, so I can spend more time one place at the expense of a night at another, we can also arrive in Goa later, as her flight isn't until 21st Dec. To make it easier to read, I have just put dates, where I will be and for how many night. I have got all the train numbers and times for these routes and don't want feedback so much on the best trains (have found that on another thread ) just on whether I am allowing enough to time (or too much time) to enjoy the place!25/11 - Arrive in Delhi very late. STAY 2 NIGHTS. 27/11 - AGRA 2 NIGHTS (as Taj mahal closed on 27/11) 29/11 - RANTHAMBORE 3 NIGHTS 2/12 - JAIPUR 1 NIGHT 3/12 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO JAISALMER 4/12 - JAISALMER 3 NIGHTS 7/12 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO JODHPUR 8/12 - JODPHUR 2 NIGHTS 9/12 - BUS TO UDAIPUR. STAY 3 NIGHTS 12/12 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO MUMBAI 13/12 - MUMBAI 4 NIGHTS 17/12 - OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO GOA 18/12 - 21/12 GOA. Then I'm allooooone!! Concerned that might want to spend more time somewhere else rather than 4 nights in Mumbai, but at the same time the last two journeys are a little epic and would be good to have a break? I am heading north again to Ellora once I am on my own. Looks too good, I can't miss it. Don't really have time to take a side trip one the way down though, and my friend wants a few days in Goa. Any feedback or ideas wildly appreciated! Thanks! ![]() |

If you're going to Ellora, don't miss Ajanta, though it means you will have to spend an extra night or two in that area.

Why Mumbai? why 4 days?
I love Mumbai and have visited more times than any other place in India (at least 12), it's a great place to arrive and depart, and is good fun for a few days, but it's not a place that should be on anyone's Itinerary, other places have more to offer (and a lot cheaper). Udaipur to Bundi, spend a couple of days in Bundi, then get a train* (15th or 16th) from Kota at 15:40 to Madgaon (12:35). *This train is a Rajdhani and would have to be booked when you arrive in Delhi, it's easy enough to do, and there will be availablity. |

Thanks steven, will have a look. Not massively keen on all that time in Mumbai either just wasn't sure where else to go on the way down... maybe I ran out of researching steam by that point!
P.S. thanks for the article about train tickets. Very very very helpful! I was struggling to understand and the article made it simple. |
