Itinerary for HP/Kashmir

Hello IM'ers! A buddy and I will be touring northern India from June 21 - July 26. We will be flying into Bombay and leaving from New Delhi. I have plotted out a rough outline of the cities/attractions we would like to visit. Our plans may be ambitious, but we are both young and in good shape so I think we're up for the challenge Here is the list I've drawn up so far.

Bombay 4 days
Ajanta 1 day
Ranthambore 3-4 days
Pushkar 2 days
Jaipur 2 days
Fatehpur Sikri 1 day
Agra 2 days
Lucknow 2 days
New Delhi-->Shimla ??
Mcleod Ganj ??
Manali ??
Leh ??
Srinagar ??
And back to New Delhi (4 days) for our departure

The first couple weeks are relatively easy to plan as far as getting from place to place. The tail end of our trip in HP/Kashmir however, is not so cut and dry. I know the bus ride from Manali-->Leh takes 2 days. I've read that the bus ride from Leh-->Srinagar takes 2 days as well. And I haven't the slightest clue the best way to get back to New Delhi from Srinagar. We do plan on doing 2-4 days of trekking somewhere in the last 2 1/2 weeks so keep that in mind.

Can someone give some suggestions on the best way to fit this last leg of the trip together? I don't mind bus travel too much, but if it really starts to cut into our (already limited amount of) time, that's no good. Are any of these cities connected by train? We're leaving in a month from now and our itinerary needs to be completed!

Also, thoughts on the itinerary as a whole are greatly appreciated. If things are too tightly packed, maybe you could point out cities where we could spend less time in, or cities we could cut out altogether.

AGRA = HELLHOLE!

Five or maximum six hours is enough to see the Taj and Fort. I would choose your duration of stay in Agra according to the train times and prefer not to overnight there!

It's a great day trip from New Delhi by Shatabdi.

Welcome bigjig04.

1. Bombay – 4 days? Do you have anything beyond traveling in Bombay?
2. Fatehpur Sikri 1 day
Agra 2 days

- Delhi to Agra stay one night and visit Fatehpur Sikri and come back to Delhi.
3. Srinagar – Srinagar to Jammu by bus (whole day) and Jammu to delhi by train (please search for the trains in Indian Railway’s website).

Srinagar local tour – 2 days
Srinagar > Sonamarg > Srinagar – 1 day
Srinagar > Gulmarg > Srinagar - 1 day
Srinagar > Pahelgam (stay) and Pahelgam to Jammu (and train for Delhi).

- this is minimum to enjoy Srinagar. My experience is described here A trip to Heaven on Earth. if it helps you.

cheers,
Somnath

We will be staying with my friends' family while in Bombay so we'll stay there for a minimum of four days. We will definitely shorten our stay in fatehpur sikri/agra. I think we may have to shorten the amount of cities we hit in the end of our trip (mcleod ganj/srinagar/manali) or maybe even cut them out all together. The reason being we want to do a little bit of trekking around leh for about 5 days. I really do want to go to srinagar, so i'll try to squeeze that in
