Itinerary: 4 weeks in India
I'm going to India this May to visit my friend Zoey who lives in Mumbai, and then we would like to do some traveling together through India to five additional places we've picked out. I could really use some help planning a way to see all six places we've chosen (mumbai, delhi, agra, rajasthan, kerala, and goa) with a few days at the start in Mumbai (assuming I'll need rest and to buy supplies before starting our vacation) and as many days as possible (or around a week) in Mumbai at the end where I'll be taking off from after my four weeks is up.
Is this a realistic matrix of how many days I would spend in each place including travel time? Does anyone know how is the best way to get between these places and/or what order to see them in? Like if anyone has a similar itinerary that worked for them??? I'd like to hear any and all suggestions. I'm open to any forms of transportation but of course on a budget so the cheaper the better. I believe I'd rather substitute more days traveling than paying more but I don't know for sure. Please help!! I could stay a few extra days too, just looking for your advice on the itinerary, I have no idea how realistic my schedule is below: Day 01: mumbai arrival Day 02: mumbai Day 03: mumbai Day 04: set out for rajasthan via train Day 05: arrive in rajasthan Day 06; rajasthan Day 07: rajasthan Day 08: train to delhi Day 09: arrive in delhi Day 10: delhi Day 11: delhi Day 12: agra via car Day 13: Agra then drive back to delhi Day 14: Kerala by plane Day 15: Kerala Day 16: Kerala Day 17: Kerala Day 18: Goa by train Day 19: Goa Day 20: Goa Day 21: Goa Day 22: Back to Mumbai Day 23-28: Mumbai |

Hi!
Please remember that Kerela and Rajasthan are STATES. So, WHERE are you planning (I mean which city) are you planning to visit there. If you choose only 01 city in each state, then it is OK otherwise I think it will be too hectic for you. |

Hi Raz,
That sounds to be a wonderful trip. But as ‘mountaingirl’ rightly says, Kerala & Rajasthan are states. You will need to choose the places to visit in those states. I guess, in Rajasthan you should visit Jodhpur, (There are direct trains from Mumbai to Jodhpur), then Jaisalmer, Udaipur & Jaipur. If you have time, Visit Mount-Abu too. And as they say, “When you are in Rome, live like Romans”; same applies here. When you are in Rajasthan, live like a Raja (King). Take the Heritage Hotels/Palace Hotels. You will love them. In Kerala too, you can visit Cochin, Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey. Try AC house-boats at Alleppey. Avoid Kovalam beach as you are gonna visit Goa too. I think you should also visit Himachal. I know it does snow in Vegas/Nevada Mountains during winter storms, but the mighty Himalayas will astonish you for your life. You can take night luxury bus from Delhi to Manali. Worth visiting. And since you are visiting India after spending lot of money & time, you should not miss Khajuraho & Ajanta-Ellora. Donno much about Khajuraho, but you can certainly take a short flight to Aurangabad from Mumbai to visit Ajanta. Now-a-days u have lots of low cost airways in India. Without Ajanta-Ellora your trip to India is incomplete man!!! ![]() Cheers, -Ashish. |

And yes, I missed Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary near Jaipur. During winter, it’s a feast to bird watchers, since huge no. of migratory birds come here from Central Asia / Siberia for shelter. Or try out Ranthambore. The tiger population there has increased to a gr8 extent. That's if you like some adventure in your trip.
