itin advice: delhi/ agra/ rajasthan/dharamsala

just starting to home in a draft itinerary plan for three weeks in february, arriving and departing from delhi (from/to new york).

parameters:

--arrive delhi on sunday, feb. 3

--must be in dharamsala by feb. 6 (for pre-losar festivities) and wish to stay @ 4 (more? less?), perhaps returning to delhi on the 9th or 10th.

--must be in agra for the full moon, thursday, feb. 21 (to optimize taj photo ops and take advantage of late admission to taj that night--or so i read.) will want a few days in agra in case of fog, and so i can at least try for a clear sunrise and sunset.

--i will take overnight trains to/from dhelhi to near dharamsala.

--depart delhi for new york on saturday, feb. 23rd.

so i guess that leaves a day or two in delhi between my arrival there and departing for dharamsala. upon my return from dharamsala, i'd have 9 (?) days to cover more or delhi, perhaps, and rajasthan (jaipur?). thoughts on jaigarh? amber? what about fatehpur sikri? others' favorites? can't misses? is an overnight desert camel safari sheer folly? my initial research suggests they run a minimum of 3-4 days, so perhaps so.

it's quality over quantity. i don't want to be rushing. would rather see less and appreciate it more.

any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

When you arrive back in Delhi, you could take a flight direct to Jaisalmer (Indian are starting flights on November 1st) and do 1 night in the desert, you'll want to stay in Jaisalmer for at least 2 additional nights, if not 3.

Then either go to Bikaner or Jodhpur for a couple of days, then you can get an overnight train from Bikaner or Jodhpur to Bharatpur (maybe a day here) or Agra.

Bharatpur is 60 kms from Agra, it is also only 25kms from Fathepur Sikri.
