For individual regions, I find this link quite useful:
http://weather.yahoo.com/regional/INXX.html and this one from the Indian govt. website: http://www.imd.gov.in/section/nhac/dynamic/current.htm

Aishah, can you check that second link, I'm getting a message saying the website doesn't exist which seems unlikely!

Odd, it works for me too now, it must have been a glitch my end.

Useful resource!

(though I'm regretting going back to it - New Delhi 34.4 degrees! )

Yep, it actually has not rained in about 3-4 days now hence the rise , if it does it will crawl back down below 30 but then it becomes humid... so really, either way doesn't help..

Not great here either Haylo! Mid 30's plus humidity too but I think our nights are better than Delhi's. Down to mid-20'sC. It's a bit hard after my long cool break - Oz, NZ, then Landour above Mussoorie. No temps. at any time over 25'c.

Help! Weather Information?

Help! My wife and I want to go to northern India - primarily the fairly standard Rajasthan tourist route, Agra, and perhaps Varanasi - in August. We would probably travel for two to three weeks. We would like to know more about the weather conditions. We have looked at the various charts but would like to learn of peoples' impressions. My view - and I traveled in India for three months in the past - is that the weather in August should not put us off, but my wife is hesitant. I remember the monsoon having a major impact but only for a limited part of each day. The other question I had was whether we would see the mountains if we went to Dharamasala [sp?] in August?
Any help would be most appreciated - and I apologize if this is the wrong place for this message. I could not find a better place.

I've been in Rajasthan twice in July, August. It's really hot, no really hot.
I can't remember the monsoon playing a big part in cooling the place down.
The mountains, obviously, are cooler. Darjeeling, shillong etc. are positively chilly.
And that's in Summer.
I 'spose it gets down to whether you like the heat. For Australians, we are used to it, but we don't want to bake on our holidays.
I liked being in Rajasthan in Summer, but I had an afternoon nap, and didn't go for three hour treks in the desert etc.

Weather tips

Likewise, my partner and I are going to India/Nepal Marchish 2010. Although we have a vague idea that this is HOT and then monsoon (we dont have a lot of choice about the time of year we travel), can anyone suggest which direction to travel in to minimise the impact of this? Is there a way to find out the best routes for travelling according to weather?
