Bharatpur has a bird park which you will enjoy, and it is just outside Agra. Do not stay in the town, but instead get one of the hotels near the park (there are some in the hotel section, I think). These are inexpensive, clean and have hot water!

The hotel will introduce you to a ricksha wallah/guide who will pick you up just before sunrise and take you to the park -- and these guys know their birds and where to find them!

It's a great experience, and not far out of your way.

Agreed , we had a wonderful time there and managed to catch a lot of wildlife as well.

There is a hotel called the 'Birds nest" ( or inn , something like that) right next to the gate of the Park , infact there are 2 more but we found the birds nest to be the best one. It has a lovely restaurant as well serving from the basic to Sizzler's!! We were staying at another place unfortunately but spent most of our time here post discovering it.

Should be in the range of 1200-3000 , i think they have a site , let me see if i can dig it up.

Rickshaws are parked outside these hotels , even if they are not simply walk to the park gate where you will see 10 odd standing at any given point in time. Its very organized so you dont have to worry about being accosted , each guy waits his turn.

Rickshaws take about 50INR an hour , and it takes about 3 hours to do the whole park, you set your own pace. Rickshaw guys will expect and ask for a tip once done. How much you leave is your choice but they have got a bit spoilt thanks to the foreigners there and expect as much as 500 , mine looked at me like i had lost it when i gave him 50... but thats all he got!

You can also hire a cycle from within the park if you want to be on your own.

Agra, then Bharatpur, then you can get an overnight train from Bharatput (about 21:30) to Udaipur (about 07:00).

This way you can then go to Jaipur, then from Jaipur there is an overnight train to Amritsar, it runs 4 days a week, but on 2 of those days it is a lot quicker as it takes a different route, try to work out your itinerary to catch the faster train.

Train 9781 departs Jaipur at 19.55 and gets to Amritsar at 10.15 (train departs on Monday & Wednesday only)
