Question in Mysore

I'll be in Mysore Sunday night, i want to sleep there and visit the city Monday....

1)Do you suggest me to spend only 1 day in Mysore or two??

It's the first time for me and my friends, and we don't know nothing!

2)Is it all in the centre, and we can go by foot, or we have to take a driver or public trasports?? Which place we have to visit!??!?!

3)Can you suggest me a good hotel( not more than 500 rps per night) where we can have our dinner, sleep and have the breakfast?

Thankkkkkkkkkkkkkkks

Don't miss the Mysore palace.

And though I don't know if this is a good time, a visit to the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary in Srirangapatnam (30/40 km away, or less, as I recall) is a must.

PS
Heres a good old thread

I *love* Mysore (much more than neighbouring Bangalore).

> 1)Do you suggest me to spend only 1 day in Mysore or two??

Go for two days (or nights).

> 2)Is it all in the centre, and we can go by foot, or we have to take a driver or public trasports??

I loved the zoo (one of the better ones in India).

The Palace is a must. It's lit up one night each week (I think it's on Sunday). No cameras permitted inside the palace however and the rule is stricly enforced with baggage checks before you can go inside.

Charmundi Hill used to be a nice place to take a bus ride and enjoy a walk up to the temple. On my last journey to India, I found that the pleasant walk had been hampered by row upon row of stalls from the bus terminal all the way to the top - this really spoilt the tranquility.

I do agree that the bird sanctuary is a must see - you should get a taxi out to the site (they should wait for you to return to the city). At the sanctuary you can join in one of the boats and get rowed out through the lake - be aware that if you go with some of the locals, they may be a little noisey (as I found out the hard way - which scared off the birds).

The market place in the city centre is also a must see - hidden behind the shops in the main street, it can be tough to find but once you're there, it's a shoppers paradise.

Lots of carvings available - some of genuine sandalwood and others of dubious quality.

If you get the chance, try to take in an incense factory (where people make the sticks by hand).

night) where we can have our dinner, sleep and have the
breakfast?

The place in which I stayed was (I think) called Hotel Park Lane (?). It's located very near to the palace and is only a few doors down from one of the cinemas. The rooms are small but very reasonably priced (go for a triple room for comfort) and the food on offer is some of the best I have had anywhere.

Cheers

Don't take the bus up Chamundi hill. Have yourself dropped off at the bottom of the stairs of Chamundi hill and walk up over the stairs. Very pleasant and not much stalls, so bring drinks.

And not only what they mentioned. You could easily spend a week in Mysore. There are also Brindawan gardens.Go there with a local bus(taxi not nedeed) and go early in the day when there is almost nobody. You will like it.It is huge garden with fontains , lots of trees , at the bottom of a huge dam. There is a restaurant as well( beer ) etc. It is really good place to chill out for a day(till evening when thousands of Indians come for a performance of musical fontain and to generally chill out too).
Mysore has a nice arhitectur too, lots of beer bars and some nice , cheap restaurants( one at the top of building, open roof , is called something like Shalpashtri or somtething) Anyway it is all in the centre. It is besides all above mentioned just a good city to walk around.Maybe visit factory that makes insence sticks.

If you're only going to spend a day or two in Mysore, you can take the TDC tour and see almost everything people here have mentioned.

Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Gardens and Sriranganatha Temple ( SrirangaPatna, 20 kms from Mysore) would be the must-see places.

You can use Public Tranport ( Buses) to go to these places or use the Tour, as suggested by wwusa.

Hi there, If youv'e got the time and want to give yourself a treat Have lunch at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel.

Will cost you approx 12 euros for a Silver Thali,
For dessert try the Kulfi Ice Cream.Magnifico!!!!!

Don't use the tour, on your own you can do it at leasure (and walk up Chamundi Hill, highlight of a visit to Mysore).

If memory serves me correctly, many of the hotels will arrange for you to be picked up (at the front of the hotel), to join the tour group.

I'm not sure of the cost - it was a while since I've been on one but I do remember that it was quite reasonable.

The timings are something like 8:30am until later in the afternoon (around 3pm).

Cheers

1] Spending two days would be ideal to see all the places.

2] On day one you can go to Zoo (must visit), Palace & in the evening Vrindavan Gardens. All this places can be visited by using public transport (buses, rikshaws, tongas). Next day you can visit Bird Sanctuary & Chamundi hills. You might require pvt. vechicle for visiting bird sanctuary, not sure about this.

3] Hotel Mysore Dasaprakash, situated near to the place is nice option & will fit in your budget. They serve mainly south indian food. http://www.mysoredasaprakashgroup.com/dasaprakash/
