In Kolkata/Calcutta and Delhi for business in June - What can I see?

I'm very happy that I found this forum. I'm going to India for the first time in a couple of weeks for business and I'm looking for some suggestions on what to see when I'm not working.

Right now my planned itinerary is:

Working near Kolkata from Monday, June 20 to Tuesday June 28. I should have Saturday and Sunday (June 25-26) off so I can take a short trip to someplace near Kolkata.

I am then on my own until Sunday, July 2nd when I fly out of Delhi.

Originally, I was going to try to go to Darjeeling after the 28th, but I read in dozens of sources that it will be in the monsoon season, and not a good time to go.

In lieu of that, I was planning to fly from Kolkata to Delhi on June 28, and then try to take a trip to Agra and some other places close to Delhi.

I've also read that much of India will be brutally hot, so it would be best to try to head to the hill stations. At this late date, however, will I still be able to get reservations if I need them?

One other caveat is that I'll have some business clothing and a laptop in tow, so I can't travel quite as light as I'd like for this excursion to India.

Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.

Fly to Delhi 2 days to see Agra and the Taj perhaps you could fit in Fatehpur Sikri as well. Then train it up to Rishikesh where you can always make a break for Mussoorie should the heat be too intense!!
Rishikesh is nice anyway and a gentle introduction into the hindu faithfull as is Haridwar
Rishikesh offers the spritual and a lot of lovely walking in the first foothills of the mighty Himalaya! Mussoorie is nice too and at that time of year will probably be thronging with Indians enjoying a well earned break!! From here it's a sgort hop down to Dehradun where you can catch the train back to Delhi!
Lastly you can leave some of your stuff at a hotel in Delhi and pick it up later there is a small charge for this but it's not a lot of money!
Try the hotel listings here on IM for some ideas!
