How to go from Mt Abu to Aurangabad, Goa and Mumbai

I've got 5 weeks in India, and I'm trying to hit alot of it. Travelling as a solo woman, so trying to stay as safe as possible. I have a few questions for my last leg.

So far this is where I'll have been:
Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mt Abu.

From Mt Abu I'll have 14 days to go to Aurangabad (Ajanta/Ellora Caves), Goa, and Mumbai. I fly out of Mumbai so I need to end there. I was planning to train down from Mt Abu but I'm not sure what the best way is. Also if anyone can recommend where to stay in Goa - I was thinking mostly Panjim, Old Goa, or Ajuna area... although I've heard that southern goa is supposed to have the nicer beaches.

I know It'll be more expensive in these areas so I'm hoping for a budget of less than $50/day travelling alone.

Any suggestions?

There are also good buses between Abu-Mumbai (Via Ahmedabad), Mumbai-Aurangabad and Mumbai-Goa. I don't think transportation should be a problem.

Actually finding accomodation in Goa in Diwali time might be a problem hence I suggest you visit Goa first and then roam in Mumbai and Aurangabad

What day of the week are you looking to leave Mt. Abu? (how flexible, one day either side?)

Have you considered Diu?

Is a US$110 flight an option?

Is Diu a place? I haven't heard that one ... Where is the flight from? It is an option if I can get to and from the airport easily. I hadn't realized that I'd be saving so much in the north for accommodation - so I can splurge a bit on travel - except I still need to find places to stay in mumbai, goa, aurangabad... which i think may be kinda pricey.

Have a look in your guidebook (or do a search on Indiamike) for Diu.

It's an ex-Portuguese Island off the coast of Gujarat, it has OK beaches (no worse than Goa) and has a charm of it's own.

Diu isn't easy to get to though, so a flight from there to Mumbai (price in last post) is an option.

Just an idea....

If you do go to Diu, when it's time to leave, you can get the flight to Mumbai or get a taxi to Palitana (look it up).

Sihor station is abour 25-30kms from Palitana.

Train 2972 departs Sihor daily at 21:13 and gets to Surat at 05:53

Train 2945 departs Surat (M, W, Th, F, Su.) at 09:35 and gets to Jalgaon at 15:18, train 9047 has the same times on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Then head to Ajanta from Jalgaon.

I'm pretty flexible...but by this time I'm hoping to keep the trip really simple - the less transportation i need to arrange, the better . But I may look into going to goa first, then mumbai and aurangabad. I'll play around with it a bit - thanks !!! all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

do you know how much a flight from mumbai to aurangabad would cost?

I'd be willing to fly that one if it's not too expensive... I'm trying to avoid really late departures and early morning arrivals.

I'm trying to book my train frmo Mt Abu to Mumbai .... I entered code CSTM and it gives me the listing for the train... but then it says it doesn't go to that station. Is it the same as the Bandra Terminus?

The major trains from Abu Road terminate at Bandra Terminus (BDTS):

2479 leaves Abu Road (ABR)@23.31 and reaches BDTS @11.45, the next day.

4707 leaves ABR @ 20.24 and reaches BDTS @ 11.30, the next day.

9708 leaves ABR @ 17.10 and reaches BDTS @ 06.45 , the next day.
