How to get to Hampi
Hi everybody,
On my next trip to India I want to see Hampi - I think Bangalore is the closest large city. But how to get to Hampi? I don't think there are any flights, and I've been told not any train either - so that would leave probably 8 hours bumping along in a car which isn't too attractive! Anybody have information on this? Stephanie |

The other choice is to take a train from Bangalore. There is a train leaving every night. Get down at Hospet station and take a 15-20 minute rickshaw ride to Hampi. See irctc.co.in for details and booking. There is no airport anywhere close by. I think Air Deccen flies to Hubli which is still a few hours away from Hampi.

Travel to Hampi
That's great to hear about the train - I didn't think there was a train up there.
But Air Deccan - I bought a few tickets on Air Deccan before I went to India in March - NEVER again! Every flight was late or rescheduled, airplanes were dirty inside, it's not assigned seating so it's a fight to get on and get seated - yuck. We ended up turning in our tickets and going on Jet Airways - which we've used before - always on time, great food, no shoving - but way more expensive! Stephanie |
