How many days in Udaipur, Jaisalmer etc.
Hi,
Please help with these questions on Rajasthan itinerary: - We have currently planned 2 full days in Udaipur and 3 full days in Jaisalmer. Is this ok, or should it be 3 days Udaipur and 2 days in Jaisalmer? - Is Dungarpur worth a day trip from Udaipur or is this time better spent in Udaipur itself? - Does it make sense to go to Ranakpur as a day trip from Udaipur or is it more efficient to visit Ranakpur enroute to Jodhpur (not sure if it is the route or a major detour) Thanks |

You need a minimum of 3 hour to visit ranakpur and the total distance is around 300 kms.You require atleast 7 hours maximum, so leave early so that you can spend more than 3 hours at ranakpur.

Hi, by total distance 300km you mean the distance from Udaipur-Ranakpur-Jodhpur?

in my opinion Dungapur is not worth the trip if you have only 2-3 days. better visit Nagda or do a day in the nearby countryside.
Ranakpur is fine on route to Jodhpur. If you leave early, you can also visit Kumbhalgarh. Don't forget, the Ranakpur temple only opens for tourists in the afternoon. |

Dungarpur is very interesting a real "off the beaten trail" place. I was there for a couple of days last end of July and with the time you spend there. In my gallery here in IM I have three or four pics. Depending on the time you have you must choose between the different places. Nagda is a real treasure as well as Eklingi but you can make this visits in few hours just taking an autorickshaw in Udaipur.
Kumbalgarh and Ranakpur are not exactly in your way to Jodhpur but with a small detour you can visit both places, in my opinion both visits are a must. There are so many things to see in the area as well as in Jaisalmer that five days is not very much time to do it ...Jorge Have a look at some images of Dungarpur and Nagda. One more question about Dungarpur - is it possible to visit Udai Bilas and maybe have lunch there or is it only open for guests who stay there?

The distance is around 100 km. 78 km to Khairwara on the highway to Himatnagar/Ahmedabad and then 20 km to Dungarpur.
OYou can get lunch or dinner in Udai Vilas even if you are not staying there. Jorge |

I am thinking of altering the itinerary to the following:
We reach Udaipur on Dec 19 at 3 pm, will be pretty much wiped out, so nothing else planned that day. Dec 20 - we explore Udaipur Dec 21 - day trip to Dungarpur Dec 22 - we go around Udaipur some more Dec 23- we leave Udaipur for Jodhpur and Jaisalmer How does this itinerary sound? |

Well, is not a bad idea but you I would like to point out that Dungarpur is a place "off the beaten trail" where is even difficult to speak with the people. If you need hotel information in Dunarpur other than Udai Vilas, please let me know. Don't forget to visit Nagda and Eklingi (no pictures from Eklingi because cameras are not allowed in the temple's compound).

Hi Jorge,
Dungarpur's non-touristy status is part of the appeal for us! We are not planning on staying in Dungarpur. We will just do it as a daytrip from Udaipur and return to stay the night in Udaipur. Regards. |
