Smile himalaya or kerala in june?

Hi Everyone,

I will be travelling to India in late May and for most of June. I would like to spend some time in an ashram and have found options in Kerala (Dhanwantari Ashram, Neyyar Dam) or in the Himalaya (Sivananda Kutir, Uttarkashi). What would your recommendation be? I'm concerned about weather. I arrive in Delhi and fly out of Mumbai. Has anyone been to either of these ashrams? What was your experience like?
Thanks

The monsoons hit the coast of Kerala in June and then all hell breaks loose. And its peak summer in the north. And Himalayas is the place to be during that time.
SO, No Second thoughts

No contest, Garhwal Himalayas! I live down the road from Sivananda Kutir, are you going to sign up for a course there? What are you looking to do if you don't mind my asking?

Go to the himalayas - Uttaranachal is awesome that time of the year. Kerala is probably best in the winter months (although it is still hot in "winter").

Himalaya or kerala in june?

Thanks for all the replies! Sorry for my delayed response. I was hoping to sign up for a course at Sivananda Kutir but they are only running a teacher training course during the time I will be in India. This course runs for a month and I wasn't planning on staying that long. I would like to sign up for about a two week course at an ashram that explores the 5 points of yoga. A strict daily schedule quite appeals to me for some reason. If you have any suggestions of other ashrams that I could visit I'd really appreciate it.

As others have pointed out South is quite hot so Himalayas is your only real option - Sivananda Kutir is out also - You could think of this option, coming to Uttarkashi and having your own teacher (I have someone in mind who used to teach at Sivananda & he is local, perfect English etc) regarding accomodation, food etc, well that is organisable - in fact we also have a small kutir next to Bhagirathi which might be possible - Much of the practice anyway is DIY thing and a regimen is up to you to maintain.

Actually I met my friend Krishna who is the teacher (Pranayam specialist) also a Garhwali folk singer, today and mentioned this - so he is up for it. To be honest I don't agree that one has to be in an ashram or centre, it just so happens that way is easiest for most folks. If you really are into Yoga, apart from asana's etc, then this Uttarkashi area (Yogbhoomi - land of Yoga) is also a great opportunity to meet real Yogi's - i.e. men and women who live the Yog, whilst existing, as we all must, in the mundane - Geddit? Keep posting and we'll all get there!

BTW - Kangaroo Island was a fave location of mine, fond memories of camping & tooling around in a Kombi, decades ago mind you, Have you been?
