Help with Rajasthan...Pleeeeeeze

Hi everyone,

I've got roughly 5 weeks in India, possibly 5 1/2 weeks depending on when I get my visa.

Anyway, I'm flying into Mumbai and will be staying with a friend in Gujarat, close to Surat, for a few days. Then I want to head up to Rajasthan for about 10 days. Would love more time but I have to get down to Kerala to start a yoga and meditation course by a certain date.

So, I'm thinking
Ahmedabad to Jodhpur
Jodhpur to Pushkar (or possible leaving Pushkar out)
Over to Jaipur and Amber
Jaipur to Agra and then back to Ahmedabad

Don't really like cities (ie Jaipur) but I'm a big fan of the movie The Far Pavillions and would love to go to Hawa Mahal and Amber etc...which is where parts of the movie were filmed. I've accepted now that I'll have to leave out something and I'm thinking Udaipur. I really don't want to be putting my bags down one day and having to pack them up the next day, it's all too exhausting so do you think 10 days would be enough to do this with taking overnight trains etc...into account?

Would fly from Mumbai to Trivandrum for the yoga course then when that is finished, make my way to Alleppey then Munnar then Kochi which is where I'll fly out of. It seems I'll be going in all sorts of directions!

Is it possible to get an overnight train from Agra to Ahmedabad? Also, would it just be easier to get buses between Jodphur and Pushkar and Jaipur as the distances don't seem that great between them? Is Pushkar worth going to?

The only alternative to give me more time in Rajasthan is to not to the yoga course in Kerala but to find one with different start dates or in a different location but I'm worried it's too late to start sorting that.

Sorry for the 20 questions! Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Hi

If I had to choose between Udaipur and Pushkar I go to Udaipur.

So Ahmedabad - Udaipur
Udaipur - Jodhpur by bus
Jodhpur - Jaipur
Jaipur - Agra
Agra - Ahmedabad see Agra - Ahmedabad

On the erail site you can also find the other trains, there is even a train from Surat to Udaipur.

Many thanks for your reply. I didn't realise that I could go from Surat. That will really make life easier for me.

I totally agree. Pushkar has so much less to offer than Udaipur.
