help with itinerary delhi/agra/jaipur/dharmsala
Hi,
I was hoping everybody here could help out with my itinerary. I only have 10 days so I want to maximize what I can do without spending the whole trip on trains and cars. August 4 - Arrive in Delhi August 5 - Tour Delhi August 6 - Delhi - Agra August 7 - Agra - Fatehpur Sikri – Jaipur August 8 - Jaipur August 9 - Jaipur - Delhi (overnight train to Pathankot ) August 10 - Pathankot – Dharamasala (3 hours) August 11 - Dharamasala August 12 - Dharamasala – Manali (250kms – 5.5hrs) August 13 - Manali – Shimla (270kms – 7hrs) August 14 - Shimla - Delhi (via flight) August 15 - Depart at Delhi Airport (8am) I am trying to do a lot and wanted to cut some of the Pathankot->Shimla out. The last 4 days are basically all travel days as well. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to cut down on the travel. I do not have to go to Dharamsala but I thought it would be cool to visit where the Dhali Lama lives. Another alternative is to fly to Ladakh instead of Dharamsala. Thanks for the advice! |

I suggest a minor modification.
After you finish Delhi-Agra-Jaipur, you should do the Delhi-Kalka-Shimla-Manali. I have got some good info here on this site. We are also planning a similar trip with the kids around the end of July. (but have limited amount of time). Good Luck dom |

Train 2413 departs Jaipur daily at 16.35 and gets to Chakki Bank (Pathankot) at 06.05 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.)

Why not eliminate Dharamsala entirely and focus on Rajasthan? While Dharamsala is a nice enough place, the Dalai Lama might not be there when you visit and I think you're spending a lot of time traveling that might be better used actually seeing some sights. You'll already be in Jaipur and it's an easy hop to Pushkar, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. You could eliminate Pushkar for an extra day in Jaisalmer or you could probably get by with one day in Jodhpur if you got there early and took a well-organized tour. From Jaisalmer back to Delhi is a long train trip (#4060--16:10/11:10), but since you'll have almost 24 hours in Delhi before you flew home, you could eliminate the first touring day in Delhi and save it for the last day.
