Help plan itinerary for Sikkim in December 2009

I am planning to visit Sikkim for 7 days sometime between 21st Dec to 30th Dec 2009 with my family - 3 members in all. Reading all about the place has created more confusion for me. I like beautiful picturesque places and am interested in photography as well. If I exclude the days taken to reach Bagdogra and have to plan my trip from Bagdogra to Bagdogra in 7 to 8 days, how should I go about it? Can the fellow travelers help me plan the itinerary? I also heard that the helicopter ride from Bagdogra to Gangtok is excellent and must do it at least one way. Any suggestions? How much will it cost?

And how about the weather at that time of the year? Will it be foggy or clear? Suggestions for good , reasonable hotels to stay are also welcome.

Thanks, chandandebnath.

I have a little doubt here. It's going to be winter and so the days may be short. Do you think all this can be covered considering this fact? And will not this itinerary be too tight? Just asking for opinion before I finally put down all on paper and start bookings.

In that case you can skip Pelling and reach Bagdogra directly from Gangtok. If the permits are done in advance(which will be done by the travel agents after you reach Gangtok)then you can start early for each tour and winter will be no problem. We went for the same tour during the Xmas.

Hello snowflake

I do not mind if you join us but all our bookings have been made. So you will have to make your bookings for hotels. We can accommodate you in the vehicle for the various tours. I can post the details of the contact persons who I made my bookings with and my detailed itinerary to you. Can you mail me at this e-mail address: drsurti@hotmail.com

Help me in finalising my itinerary.

Hey Can you please share the info of the persons with whom you have done your bookings.

BTW can anyone help me in getting my itinerary finalised.

I am going for a honeymoon from 23 Nov to 29 Nov.

I dont want much trekking, travelling and hectic schedule, so I have fixed my itinerary like this.

23- NJP to Gangtok, take hotel and relax.
24- Local sight seeing.
25 - Gangtok - Pelling.
26 - Pelling local sightseeing.
27 - Pelling to Darjeeling.
28 - Darjeeling Local sightseeing.
29 - Darjeeling - NJP for return journey.

But I am confused whether I should go for north sikkim after 1 day halt in gangtok and skip pelling, as I have read that there is not much in gangtok & pelling.

Please help me and also what will be the expenditure since my budget is 25K.

vijay.singla,
Pelling has awesome mountain views and a beautiful monastery. You have too short a time to explore north Sikkim.

need a group to join for north sikkim

hi jhsurti,
i searched for sikkim travel itinerary and found your post. i'm santosh from hyderabad and i have tried to find travel partners for north sikkim trip in december. i couldn't find any. your plan seems pretty good if that is similar to the one mentioned by chandandebnath in 2nd post of this thread.

can i join your group, provided it is not an issue. i would book the hotel on my own but would like to join you on the vehicle while travelling to different places.

thanks and regards,
santosh saladi.
