Help on leaving Delhi....2 weeks in Rajastan
Hi all, I'm planning my 1st trip to India with a friend. We have 4 weeks to visit Rajastan and northern India. We arrive in Delhi at 11:40pm, but we are not planning on spending anytime in Delhi until our flight back. We would like to go to Rajastan straight away, but we are unsure if there are night buses that go from the airport, if we need to book a train, if the train station is far from the airport, or if we need to book a hotel for the first night and leave in the morning....In short, we don't know anything about Delhi, or transport from Delhi and would like as much advise as possible about arriving at Delhi airport, making prebookings, and how long bus/train trips are from Delhi, if we want to do the golden triangle, or discover more of Rajastan.
If you have any other advise on 4weeks in Rajastan and northern India, I'd appreciate it also! Thanks Last edited by machadinha : Jul 10th, 2007 at 00:01. Reason: merged threads |

No chance of taking any bus at that hour at night. Book a hotel in Delhi. Delhi is a wonderful historical city do not miss it. You haven't mentioned the places you want to visit in Rajasthan. The train station is far from the airport. If you plan to take overnight trains you must book well in advance. Please go thru the posts in Rajasthan forum & frame your itinerary.

Thanks, it sounds like it will be easier to spend the night in Delhi. Definately will spend a couple of days visiting Delhi before we take the return flight home. In Rajastan we want to do the golden triangle, but also visit not so touristy towns as well, as we have 2 weeks in Rajastan before heading north. We want to head up to Ladakh, but are not sure on the best way to go...and places to visit on the way...Any advise?

Itinery help...Rajastan, to Ladakh....
We arrive in Delhi 2nd Aug, near midnight, and want to head to Rajastan as soon as possible.(we will check out Delhi on the return). We have 4 weeks in all and wish to visit Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and any other places you can recommend in Rajastan before heading north to Ladakh, visiting Chandigarh, Simla and otherplaces recommended..... How is the best way to travel with a cheap budget and visit as much as possible on the way. Which would be the best route to take, and where to start?...Any advise?

If you have only 4 weeks then it might be a good idea to spend it all in Ladakh and Himachal, adding Rajasthan would just increase the travel time and would leave little time for exploration.

Travelling to Ladakh or Rajasthan.
Please take the advice which Yogesh offers.
Travel to and from Ladakh whether by air or land can be subject to severe delay due to weather, landslide, security situation etc.Any cancellation of transport leads to a backlog which can take days to even out. If you are serious about Ladakh I recommend you go there immediately- preferably by air -and leave overland for best travelling conditions. Two weeks is the minimum I would suggest for this trip. For a quick getaway to Rajasthan- book tickets in advance (online)for train no 2015 Ajmer Shatabdi which leaves New Delhi at 06.10 arrives Jaipur at 10.45. On arrival at Delhi airport takes the EATS bus to Ajmer gate and have 40 winks in the first class waiting room while waiting for your train. You can also doze on the train but the staff keep waking you up for food. You will thus be in Rajasthan's biggest city within 12 hours of landing. If you can't buy tickets in advance just go to New Delhi station and wait for the ticket office for same day travel opens and get your ticket there. In this season there's usually plenty of availability. |

Thanks, yea it'll be better to go north and see if I have any time left before going to Rajastan, as 4 weeks isn't that long to do everything... Would it be better to go north first also because of the weather? Do you know the temperatures north of Delhi, in Aug?
